We're already delisting 2 players (Keeffe and Thomas)

You'd think Young is gone

I'm a fan of Dwyer, but a 28 year old player who only plays 5 games in a season due to form normally doesn't get a new contract.

That's at least four players gone.

Who would be more useful to our team, Ben Sinclair or a fifth round draft pick?
Fifth round draft pick would be cheaper. Why not use the extra 200k or so to lure another bigger name?

Unfortunately for you once we get Treloar and possibly Aish our window will be wide open. Pendles off the half backline will mean that Sinclair could be good depth. I think though that Sinclair we are getting for a bargain price. he Sinclair of 2013 was good. He still has upside if he can have a clear run at it. Another thing you were wrong about was the idea of trading Adams, lol. We won that trade. We also won the Degoey, Crisp and Greenwood trade. That has really fast tracked us towards a flag considering swings and roundabouts we should get Treloar this trade period.

Williams Brown Scharenberg
Pendles Reid Langdon
Broomhead Treloar Varcoe
Sidebottom Cloke De Goey
Elliott Moore Fasolo
Grundy Adams Swan
Aish Maynard Crisp Greenwood

That's a pretty good side and flag material so we probably won't see you posting too much on here, but thanks for contributing to a 'controversial thread.

Schaz, Williams, or a few guys go down we'll be aiming for a flag, and Sinclair will come into he equation.

Every side the comp will look a bit different with Treloar AND Aish in the team. Who are we giving up to get them?

Last year before the season started Sinkers was the love child of this board
This year he is the whipping boy
What happened?
He hasn't really played much in that time due to injury so why has he all of a sudden gone to dud status.

I suggest people watch some of his games prior to his run with injury. It will remind you why it is worth extending his contract. Kid has a lot of potential.
He didn't play and people have only remembered his time as a forward.

The Disposal stats are both handball and kick. Regardless, he is in the top ten in our club.
Yeh but what pressure is he under. Like Armstrong. Playing off half back with loose players evey where would be easier to pass off and find your team mate than doing it up the ground. Sinclair is a battler we don't need anymore. He was a forward that couldn't make it because he couldn't kick straight so now he is just a nothing player in defence. He can't hold down a Jetta type. Useless.

The average wage of an AFL player is around $227K (I've assumed 44 players out of a salary cap of $10 million)

Would have thought Sinclair would be one of the players getting less than average.

Both those players can kick. Sinclair wouldn't get a game at Hawthorn.

Spangher can't kick

Just rubbish belief about Sinclair. The haters keep saying he is a poor disposer of the ball. They focus on that, and don't give any other reasons why he is no good. Truth be told, that the stats don't lie. If he misses his targets by hand or foot, it would show up in the stats. Sinclair is the 9th best disposer of the ball this year with 76.1% effective.

1. Tony Armstrong 87.5%
2. Jack Frost 97.3%
3. Corey Gault 84.6%
4. Adam Oxley 78.5%
5. Travis Varcoe 78.4%
6. Patrick Karnezis 78%
7. Steele Sidebottom 76.8%
8. Scott Pendlebury 76.8%
9. Ben Sinclair 76.1%

So take Gault, Armstrong and Karnezis out of that, because they have only played a couple, Sinclair is almost in the top 5 in our club.

So please, to save embarrassment, pick on something else about Sinclair, and leave his accuracy in disposal out of it, because it doesn't add up.

I've always found disposal efficiency a poor indicator.

While three years is meant to be the maximum, I'm almost positive that if the player agrees to it that he can stay on for at least another year. Wanganeen of Hawthorn did this I believe (2011-2014), so was there for four years on the Rookie List.
How do you remember stuff like that? Amazing!

Well, I am getting on a bit but I try to keep the mind as active as possible, and I never drink alcohol more than 5 days a week, which I think is quite significant.

What's the lowest? Wouldn't it make more sense to have another star in the team and delist a guy on $227 for the lowest wage?

What's the lowest?

I saw it around here recently, and I only remember that it wasn't much (by AFL player wage standards) ... Hmmm $60K?

As I said, my guess is that Sinclair would be on below average wage. Somebody has to be to make up for Cloke / Pendlebury / Swan / Sidebottom / Reid / Brown / Greenwood / Varcoe ...

... And there is only so many 1st and 2nd year players on the list earning fixed minimum wage.

And to answer your question: no, not when the guy is part of the starting 22 (as Sinclair generally has been when he's been fit).

I don't believe Sinclair is automatic best 22 that's the thing and for a guy that isn't $227k is a lot of wasted salary cap space.

You seem to be struggling a bit with this. It has been suggested that while the average wage of an AFL player may be around the $227k mark, Sinclair is likely to be getting less than the average wage. Hope this helps.

Why have so many average players on the list is the point im making. You could have 1-2 more stars on the list by getting rid of all those on $227k ish but more young players on a list for $60k and use the spare cash towards a star.

The average salary is actually a little below 300k in 2015.

Maybe 227k is taking into account rookies.

Yeah, but we could probably find 15-20 "average players" who are never going to be stars and ditch them, then replace them with a few genuine stars and pad out the list with a heap of youngsters on the minimum wage. But then we'd have no depth left, and if a serious run of injuries came along we'd be stuffed.

You just don't get to have a team full of champions these days, you need some "foot soldier types" as well to make up the numbers. That's where the likes of Sinclair come in.

In YOUR opinion. And then when Bucks has a difference of opinion then he is playing favourites. Could it be that you are wrong? He is super quick, and does good when I see him. Not a nothing player from what I see.
