Opinion Sinclair

TBH I got no idea how people can say they see something in Sinclair. What I see week in week out is garbage. People were saying to me last week not to rate him after the Hawks game but rather after the Tigers game as they are a much weaker team. News flash guys he was just as bad against the Tiges.

I don't see anything essentially wrong with Sinclair's kicking action on real-time footage, so it gives me hope he can improve. I think he just lacks composure, and despite being very quick over the ground, maybe he's not quick-of-mind like we were told Sidebottom was when we drafted him.

If he doesn't improve, Jamie Elliot is only 4cm shorter, probably just as quick, plays a similar position with a similar job description (ie. forward pressure first and foremost) but has a cannon for a leg.

I imagine at some point we're going to elevate a rookie, just wondering who that'll be?

I'd say it would be one of our small/mid sized players, considering we are looking to replace Krak and Caff, who are mid sized players. So I'm sure Williams, Stubbs, Farmer and Mooney would all come into contention.

Commentators and posters have said his got a terrible high ball drop... i havnt really looked too closely though.

Williams would be favorite for promotion, followed by mooney. Mooneys pressure is a HUGE bonus, even if his not kicking many goals.

We'd have to wait a few weeks to get Elliott in, seeing as he's injured, or just off the injury list, he'll need some VFL time to get his touch back, and will need to spend a bit more time there than say a Beams, simply because he's a first year player coming off an injury.

But yes, Elliott would do a similar job, although Sincs is more a midfielder, and Elliott is a small forward.

Swanny never set the world on fire in his first 30 games.
I'll give him more time before consigning him to the tip.

Agree, early days to write the kid off yet.

Most of the things he appears to lack at the moment can be coached - the thing he does have in spades is a great attitude, so you never know exactly how things will pan out.

But can he Improve enough Quickly Enough?

Though we don't know how he is Rated inside the Club

If his disposal improved, once he got some afl experience and more composure we'd probably have a pretty good palyer on our hands.

Problem is, is he too old to improve his disposal noticably? some blokes are just bad kicks

We don't seem to tag much these days, but maybe with his attitude and tenacity he could develop into a specialist tagger who is handy to have around?

Might need to send him Fas and Swannies school of deportment for a bit though.

... Bucks must seem as his Project

Yeah, I think you're right there TD.

Sinclair seemed happy to give Buckley an opportunity as senior coach. He's stuck by him 'til now, despite two below-par performances. But If Bucks doesn't start improving his match day coaching I can see Sinclair letting him go at season's end.

;)

List Clogger

STFU mate. Once you have a set against a player you don't let up.

Sinkers has great potential I reckon.

He is extremely tenacious at the ball and has some serious speed. For a kid that has only played a handful of games he gets himself in some good positions and is always near the ball. I see a bit of Dale Thomas in his guts and determination.

Buckley rates him highly, so did Mick. Give him a bit more time before you lay the boot in.

I'm fairly sure that people will be re evaluating their opinions as Sinks improves and has played around 20 AFL games. His confidence should rise the more he plays, meaning most of the issues with his composure and disposal should eliminate themselves.

I don't agree with the delivery mate, but the gist of what you are saying is spot on.

TD you've been exceptionally hard on Sinclair so far while at the same time being extremely bullish about Ugle. On exposed form in the seniors throughout the pre-season Sinclair was well ahead of Ugle. Yet if Ugle were to come in and perform similarly to Sinclair in his first half dozen games there is no way you would label him a list clogger!!!

The same is also happening with Wood and Ceglar. Consistently throughout the VFL megathread you've pushed for Ceglar to come into the seniors before Wood. This despite the almost unanimous view of posters in that thread, as well as the view of the club with Wood being named BOG according to the Hun, that Wood was clearly the better of the two on the weekend.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is judge the individuals on their actual performances rather on what you want to see and to occur......

It is good to see a bit more perspective in this thread lately. Not all players can dominate afl immediately.

Lets look at sinkers strengths. Pace, tenacity and maybe his work ethic and tackling. Besides tackling you can not coachthe the other factors. Weakness appears foot skills. Can this be coached? I am not sure. However with his other skills he can still become a decent aafl player. Examples are tooves and bj. I believe even swan didn't start with great kicking skills but could be wrong on that.

Bucks appears to rate him and we know how important bucks considers kicking so lets give sinkers a bit more time before we completely write him off.

Side by side.

Dont rate him myself but I do know that kids need time. Nowhere near a write-off. Dont know what hes been doing in the past 3 preseasons but seriously needs some bulk.

Sinclair was super skinny when he was drafted by the Pies. In saying that they say players who have developing bodies and are putting on mass have poorer kicking efficiency. I hope this could be a reason for his kicking disposal being under par, but the way he shanks it makes me think it's unlikely. Still, he has time to work on it.

I reckon his shitty kicking is 90% above the shoulders tbh. He needs to learn how to clear his head a bit before he disposes/has a shot at goal.

He is playing like he doesnt think he belongs out there. John McCarthy suffered from the same issues at times. Needs poise.

That thought would probably be fuelled by the opinion people have on him. I haven't been checking newspapers and what not but surely there has been things about him on the chopping block, or being critical of him.

If everyone just gives the poor guy a break, then he might just improve.
