Who would have thought the name Ben Sinclair and "star" would ever be in the same sentence?

Herald Sun running with it, although jumping the gun a little bit there. Need to cool the jets me thinks.

Sure has improved out of sight though.

Fantastic player ------- now.

Just shows us that we need to have faith in bucks' plan and persistence with players.

I hope Sinclair continues to subtly thrust egg on all our faces for the next 10 years.

Great young talent. Since he has become confident he now backs himself to kick goals and does so. So glad he has proved me wrong!

LOL. Valuable space?
The weekly Dawes is shit and Harry has lost his mojo tripe?

There's plenety of room on the front page for anything positive.

Go Sincers!!!:D

Agree with your point! Positive threads take priority (well... They should!)

Can someone tell me how to "bold" words/quotes???

The only annoyance I have is for people bumping to say that they supported him from the start and everyone else should apologise. FFS I also stated his case early but I don't see a need to have a go at those who expressed doubts. I had them but I thought he was showing a few things which could be developed. I don't have a problem with people saying what they think, just with people who want to pump up their own tyres.

As I said earlier, I think those posts are starting to die down now and this is becoming a thread to track his improvement. Of course, you can't stop those posts completely, I mean who doesn't love going "told ya!", but they are dying down slowly.

He might actually get a rising star nom instead of some GC or GWS kid getting it with 8 touches in a 80 point flogging
Nailed it!

Bouncing Ben
COLLINGWOOD small forward Ben Sinclair has won the round 11 NAB AFL Rising Star nomination.

The 20-year-old had 12 possessions, took five marks and booted three goals in the Magpies' 42-point win over Melbourne at the MCG on Monday, drawing praise from his coach Nathan Buckley.

"In the first half of this year Ben has consistently been impacting on games for us," Buckley said.

"His contested footy, his pressure on the opposition and his ability to regularly get on the scoreboard have become really valuable and important to our flexibility.

"Right now he's one of our first picked, certainly one of the first picked of our small forwards."

Recruited from Scotch College with pick 62 in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft, Sinclair made his AFL debut in round 19 last season after overcoming a fractured leg.

He has played every game so far in 2012.

Congrats on a well deserved nomination Sinkers!:):thumbsu:

Just highlight what you want to bold and then click the bolded B in the top left corner (second row from the top) on the message box and voilà.;):thumbsu:

I can't find it :(
I post from my phone - does that make a difference?

The old bigfooty allowed me to do it easily :s

That being said, I like the new bigfooty =D

I made comment on his great endeavor, but the need to slot those goals he was missing.
He's done that.

I don't know what anyone has to apologise for?
Hardly think Sinclair is reading our musings for inspiration surrounded by the likes of Ball, Beames, Sidey, Pendles, Swan and with the great Nathan Buckley there to steer him right.

Ah, that probably explains it. Apparently the message box isn't fully functioning on phones. I don't post from my phone, so I wouldn't know. This should be fixed up soon though.:thumbsu:

I think the rising star nominations are the only thing that the AFL gets right (note I said nom's, not winner). I didn't think his game was his best this year, but they have given it to him for consistently playing good footy and adding to our team each week... As opposed to giving it to a kid who has one massive game - which they rarely do (except of course for the first -3 rounds where it is hard to judge consistent footy.)

Ill put my hand up.

I've gone from - No not Sinclair! Handball it, handball it please don't kick... Oh no

No not Sinclair... well at least he has a go.

SINKERS!!!!!!!!!

When you use the nickname it's official. I've turned

Every year, the club plays a few new players. Some are good enough or lucky enough or both, to play a good game in their first or second game. They get big pats from posters in the forum. Other players start off a bit slow. They get dropped after a couple games. and they come back and a lot of them turn out to be pretty good players - Goldsack, Harry, Toovs - just to name three. But some people insist on putting some rookies on the trade table 5 minutes into the first quarter of their first game.......

Just had a look at the past month of footy Sinkers has played...

5 games
8 goals (1.6 per game), 1 behinds (88.9% accuracy)
68 possessions (13.6), 29 contested (5.8, 42.6% contested)
45 effective (66.2%)
14 marks (2.8), 0 contested
11 tackles (2.2)
3 clearances (0.6)
10 inside 50s (2.0), 5 rebounds 50s (1.0)

Much more effective. Getting in there to get his share of the pill, and taking his chances. :thumbsu:

In that same time period, Milne has averaged 14 possessions, and kicked 11 goals. Betts has averaged 13 possessions and kicked 12 goals and Alwyn Davey has averaged 14 possessions and kicked 12 goals.

The above three players are the three small forwards that have kicked the most goals for 2012. Sinclair really isn't that far away from playing at a high level. He's played all over Garlett for example, who went for 10 possessions on average and kicked a total of 4 goals in that time period.

Told ya!!! Haha I created this thread just to shut down the negativity on the kid...Now that he is more stable it makes sense to track his journey...

I think we're starting to find the right balance of forwards in our forward line.

We have 2 big KPF in Dawes and Cloke, a medium sized forward in Goldsack, a link up player in Didak and a small forward in Sinclair.

Sincers has played every game this year.....can you do his stats for all 11?

We 'did have a link up' player. Wellingham, Beams. Sidebottom and others could play Didak's role but would be missed from the midfield. It will be interesting what approach is taken by Bucks.

The thing is, that Didak has elite disposal that neither of them can match. Didak could pick up 15 disposals, and those 15 disposals could rival another person's 25.

Can we make a rule that we don't shit-can players until there is a form line? I doubt it.

It was suggested early on that he may just have been suffering nerves as a young player. I had faith when Bucks coached that NAB game a few years ago against Port in the driving rain and Bucks thought that Sinclair was good. Have great faith in Buckley's judgement.

Sure, there were concerns early this year and they might have been fair concerns for a 50 game player, but we place a ridiculous strain on young players that spills out into talkback.

I'll be interested to see if these lessons are learnt.

Some good praise from Darren Jolly is his latest article for The Age, talking about player attitude:

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/attitude-is-everything-20120612-208di.html

Attitude is everything
Ben Sinclair won the Rising Star nomination this week and I was thrilled for him because he is exactly the sort of player that walked into an AFL career the way you want to see a player walk in. He came in, kept quiet, did all the right things and let his actions speak for him.

The whole article is a good read, so check it out.:thumbsu:
