The poor kid has been absolutely smashed on the boards here for no good reason. He tries his guts out and does the 1%ers which is what you ask of your young players (which is vital to our gameplan)

To those saying that his disposals suck, that is something that he will get better at over time. You can't just drop a kid because his disposals are a bit shaky, esp when he has been tackling and putting pressure in our forward 50.

Just to remind you guys, a few years ago a majority of this board was LIVID that MM continued to play Toovey, he was being touted as the worst Collingwood player (barring his debut against Richmond) His disposal was crap (and still is) but he had HEART and now has cult-like status.

Ben Reid could always mark the ball but he couldn't kick a goal to save a life. But he kept trying and eventually found his way into our backline (and AA)

You can't drop Sinclair "cause he can't finish off" etc...give the kid a chance and let him get some confidence. Obviously our coaches know best (as has been proven in the past) Just let the kid breathe!!!

Great game today, sick of seeing everyone wanting to drop Sinclair. Didak won't be tackling in our F50...GO PIES!!! :):thumbsu:

I have commented elsewhere on sinclair, who can stay in the team till someone better replaces him. Liked both his and Goldsack's forward pressure.

mate, i am a massive Sinclair fan but i use this analogy. its like the kid that tries really hard but he gets in the way of the talented kids.

example was him spoiling pendles today. although i love his effort

The only thing letting him down is his finishing at the moment.

Last week he missed a snap which was relatively easy and Jolly gave him a spray for not giving it off to him... early today Sinclair missed a snap again and Jolly was near by asking for the handball and gave him another spray... then in the 3rd qtr Sinclair got the ball again and tried to dish it off to someone who wasn't open.

The defensive side of his game is excellent and at this stage I think he should hold his place because of it. We really need his finishing skills to improve and hopefully that will come with confidence and experience.

9 tackles today and could have had a couple of goals to go with it.

Unlike some, see a future for him if he can get his kicking together.

If Bigfooty was as popular in 2002 as it is now, then Ben Johnson would be getting absolutely slammed in a similar way.

It is never too late to improve your kicking. Benny will be fine. :thumbsu:

Great thread. I dont have a opinion on him yet but i liked how he went about it today, a bit of poise and he could have jagged 3 goals and been the hero.
He has been potted today surprisingly for almost costing us the win by not finishing yet Fasolo tried a few individual efforts that could have cost s yet not 1 mention? every club has a whipping boy unfortunately but it hopefully Sinclair turns out ok and then watch the hates come back saying they were always a fan haha.

I agree. I thought that Sinclair was ok today. His skills need to get better and he does get pushed off the ball, but he does get to the right spots and he does try his guts out. This year we need to try and get him to stick his tackles and hold the ball in when under pressure.

If we do delist him at season's end because of the "Superdraft" he would be worth re-rooking. I think that he will improve.

Technically, unlike players such as Johnno and Toovs, his kicking is fine. It's just the decision making that he needs to improve, this will come with experience and hopefully confidence.

He seems like the type that doesn't quite think he belongs at this level, when he gets into the mentality that he can be good enough then he will improve ten-fold.

Nobody is questioning his endeavour but he just doesn't have the composure to play at AFL level (yet).

At The Moment he is Mr. Momentum Killer as he has killed our Momentum over and over again with his Poor Disposal and missing goals he really should kick

Like the next Game with Dids coming back

Dave, he can also generate momentum by winning the ball from a pack tight with bodies. Don't you admire the way he gets himself into the centre of the action?

You ever spent a lot of time with Ferrets TD? Ever stuck one in a rabbits' burrow and wait for it to flush out the bunnies? Sinclair's our ferret and there is something to like about the way he goes about his work. His kicking is disturbing at times, I will admit, but like others, am hoping he will work something out.

Yes he does with his Tackle and Has a Real Dip then he Ruins it with his Kicking. IF he can come better then that then he might be an Okay Player.

I must admit I liked him more when he went up the Ground and Could Handball it out of Traffic to someone. Did that Okay a few times today

I disagree. He gets smashed because he is a footballer who cannot execute the most fundamental skill of the game. I consider this to be a very valid reason.

This is an assumption you are making. He may not get better. And you can drop a player whose disposal is shaky, of course you can; if you have a second player who on balance is an improvement on the first player. It's not rocket surgery.

Pretty much agree with all of this.

That aside, he can be incredibly frustrating. Few times I wanted to smash things :p

Probably the first time i'm not gonna hate on Sinclair;

Plays his heart out and does what he thinks is right, does a few courageous things now and then.
Needs to improve on kicking efficiency and decision making, needs to believe he can step up and play and have confidence in his own ability.

If he can do that and keep his courage he could be a nice in & under midfielder that really puts his head in to get the ball.

This was probably his best game for the season and he was still awful. Everytime he goes near the ball I feel like the other team are going to get a goal. & lol at saying his poor kicking is no excuse for him being dropped - he is playing forwardpocket and cant kick properly. It should of cost us yesterday, it did cost us against Hawthorn and it will cost us in September if he plays.

Similar to Harry o's kicking out of defense ?

I like this kid, trying his heart out on the field devserves another chance

Who saw him dive head first to the ground to get the ball against 2 bomber players in the 4th qtr? Very courageous.

He was good for us and his positives outweigh the negatives.

What I find frustrating is people who are writing him off or overly criticizing him, the fact is that you never know where an AFL players career is going to end, and Keefe is a prime example of a Bigfooty spud turning into a Bigfooty stud.

I thought he played his best game today, but I would drop him due to the fact that Didak, Shaw, Thomas and Reid are coming into the side and we can't risk having Sinclair's disposal in the side when in tight games like today.

Spot on. What people don't realise is that not every player that gets drafted actually makes it as an AFL player. Hine has been great, but even he makes mistakes. Sinclair at this stage looks like one of those.

We have had better equipped players in the past who haven't gone on to bigger things. I was happy when we cleared these deadwood players such as Chris Egan and Sam Iles before the 2010 premiership year. Just hope they aren't filtering back into the system.

If you have been playing football for as long as Sinclair has and can't dispose of the ball properly at his age, you are not going to improve that much in coming years. Rarely happens.

I don't have any expectations anymore when he gets the ball. Even in the last when he had two shots at goal under no pressure, my heart rate didn't pulse with excitement, as I knew his form, and he repaid the faith with missing both.

I have said it before and I will say it again... Yes his kicking is a worry but I can't recall too many kids of his size and experience with such an uncanny ability to get where the pill is. On top of that, his tackling and pressure against the Bombers was excellent. Time will tell but regardless of whether he makes way for others at some stage, I wouldn't mind betting he'll become a pretty valuable player.

Alot of people are saying he tried his heart out, and he certainly did. But that doesn't mean he should stay in the side. If he tried his heart out, and still wasn't good enough, then he needs to be dropped. It is about output, not effort, and his output is not high enough.

I love his effort though. Mucho respect to the kid for that.
