Single best finals moment

Such a great finals series all round, absolutely flush with all time moments - Fletchers goal against GWS, Joes heroics, Zorko with ball in hand at the end of the GF, Fagan and Leigh on the bench after the GF, Oscar the gold standard teammate and so many more. For me though these were it:

Hipwoods goal - knew we were home once that went through. When its your day its your day.

Rayners goal in the prelim and the final siren a couple of minutes later - loudest I've ever heard a Lions crowd in Melbourne or Brisbane. Still spine tingling on replay.

Ah Chee's goal on 3QT in the GF. Just a great all round fun moment for us to enjoy the incoming flag.

Can't split these three. Not neccessarily the most skilled but significant moments that I personally look back on as the most memorable.

Joe was just so big in that two minutes it was simply phenomenal and is the obvious starting point.

The Rayner moment was equally as big. Unlike the GWS game (where it was all us for most of the quarter), the cats had some momentum when they kicked those two and got in front. The way Ashcroft cleanly explodes from a Joe tap, Eric fends and gets it into space and then Rayner traps the loose ball and unloads. Boy. (And Stanley missed from the goal square so was lucky to be a two goal lead at the end).

But here's the moment for me and it's a bit random. I was right behind our goals in the last quarter of the GWS game; Zorko kicks his goal, falls over and literally springs up and sprints back to the middle. We still needed three goals but something about his energy made me think that he was not going to miss his moment to gets premiership.

The Chris Fagan redemption arc

Chris Fagan’s 2024 season with the Brisbane Lions has been nothing short of extraordinary. At the start of the year, his reputation was under fire. Off-season team disruptions, injuries, and a rough beginning to the season had many doubting his ability to lead. Critics, both from the media and the fanbase, were quick to label him as past his prime. The pressure mounted, and the weight of expectation seemed overwhelming.

But Fagan, true to his nature, didn’t back down. Rather than being consumed by the negativity, he showed remarkable resilience. Slowly, he reconnected with his team, instilling belief and a sense of purpose. The Lions began to find their rhythm, pushing through adversity and getting back on track.

When the finals came around, Fagan’s leadership was at its peak. Despite all the noise and distractions, he guided Brisbane with tactical brilliance. His ability to stay calm under pressure and make the right moves in crucial moments became the defining factor of their success. In some of the most clutch moments in AFL finals history, Fagan’s Lions stood tall, overcoming every obstacle in their path.

Finally, after five long years of near-misses and heartbreak, Fagan delivered the silverware that had always eluded him. His redemption was complete, proving that true champions aren’t made in moments of ease, but in the face of adversity. Fagan’s 2024 season wasn’t just about the Lions winning—it was about a coach who faced the storm, fought through it, and emerged victorious.

Chris Fagan has cemented his legacy as a leader who never lost faith, no matter how tough the journey got.

Joe jumping up after his final goal as an AFL footballer lives rent free in my head.
Actually, every moment, once posted here I find it has occupied a space in my head rent free. :D
I reckon there's plenty of vacant spaces for a few more finals moments to find shelter, this and coming years.
Bring on the Dew era post 2027 Fagan era.:D

Nicely put.

I've said it before but bugger it, I'll say it again.

We owe Fages an enormous debt of gratitude.

The last five minutes of the prelim - Rayner/Ah Chee goals - Paynes run down and the best feeling of anticipation of the week ahead. Special mention to the MCG donut van on the way home that added to the taste of victory.
Remember those hot donuts at Princes Park? Same van?

As a supporter you can drop your bundle, point out where we're going wrong ,criticise all aspects of our game plan or players and if things turn around get back on the bandwagon and even claim you had it right.

As head coach if you lose it in that way you're gone. I think privately Fagan had his moments as all coaches do but it didn't filter through to players and he as able to maintain the positive focus around the place that wins games. Once we started winning again he cemented the faith the players had in him.

To get where we have is a lot to do with him , his personality, persistence and belief. At the end of the day you still have to have the players who can deliver and getting hold of those and developing them all pulling in the same direction is something else he can take a significant part of the credit for as well. There are others who also played important roles but in the public's minds eye it all depends on the coach.

I thought at the time that Kai's 'fake and shimmy' with his 3rd quarter set shot V GWS (when we were being blown out) was a brave and potentially inspiring action that only the extremely bold (or youthfully foolish) might have attempted.

If it was smothered I pretty much guarantee heads would have dropped and it would have been game and season over. As it was it still left us way behind but with a bit of a spark that we carried into that first period of momentum (before GWS steadied and extended the lead again and we had to do it all again).

Without that, there is no Joe heroics (which are immortal in their own right), no Cam leftie from 50 or Charlie getting crunched so that Ca Ah Chee can swoop v the Cats, and nothing that will remain indelible from the GF forever would have even happened.

So many 'if it weren't for that we wouldn't have won' moments, but for me that is the first one I recall.

Glad Kai stayed and hope he keeps his occasionally irrational confidence for a long while to come.

The one that flies under the radar is McKenna's centering kick to Morris in the PF. Reckon Conor is the only player we have that could've pulled that kick off.
Yes , it was incredible .

Most underrated moment of the finals for me:

Wilmot's chase down tackle on Heeney in Q1 of the grannie, when we were two goals down and everything was uncertain.
