I wouldn't mind if Warhorse disagreed with an opinion of mine, but I just can't see anything to actually disagree with in my post: Dangerfield is president of the AFLPA, and sports/politics have been linked as long as they've been around ..

I'd guess there would be plenty of people who watch sport who also like to share their opinions on political matters Turbo - not suggesting you have to like it of course, but history would suggest that it will be an ongoing component.

The general vibe on this board on this topic is reasonable predictable... Generally I think we are a compassionate people ..but lets say Danger posted a strong comment the other way supporting the PM... as CE said he may want to enter politics. What if he strays into public delclarations on other political things that are not as palatable .. most politic choices upset someone. What happens if we start seeing all players just voicing their own little ignorant believes ... just cause they can play footy doesnt mean they understand global consequences... or go down the path of extreme left or right wing comment or a political comment on the Folau issue.

nice riposte TC, as the Folau issue is very much the other side of the coin, with his public comments still to be weighed in court ..

I'm not going to agree with the political views of each and every sportsperson, nor do I generally seek out the political views of sportspeople.

But I very much support their right to air their political views, even if I don't agree with them.
Like it or not these sportspeople are members of society like you or I and as such they will have their views, whether they be ignorant, well-informed or somewhere in-between.

Which is exactly what's wrong with society... like I said.

Anyone coming into aust from another country has to meet a criteria. Politics. Anyone granted permision to stay. Politics. Should there be no discretion by the government ? Thats nothing to do with society.. or how its changed.. for as long as I can remember there have always been a set of criteria to meet to get approval to stay. I dont see the alternative to this to ensure the best for aust. I dare say most countries have this. Whats the alternative .. unlimited immigration?

If you let one family stay, then you have to let all of the other families stay too. Can’t just pick and choose. And they aren’t genuine refugees.

It sucks for them but rules are rules. And i dislike the libs.

We are so lucky having an island nation, and can control immigration. Just look what open borders are doing to europe.

Well thats the end game. Players taking the knee and doing whatever else that they deem to bring their message. I have not given an opinion on whether this particular case is right or wrong yet look at some of the posts .. refer.. to right wing etc. ... ..

But just because they play footy shouldn't disqualify their ideas either.

Can I say I find the title of this thread disrespectful. To Patrick. ( who hasn't been awarded the title).
Its a put down from years back.

What Dangerfield wants to make of his life post football is his business.

I would hope though that living in the real world (Moggs /Adelaide/Moggs/Geelong), and seeing what can be done (maybe) places him in as good a position or better than a university apparatchic.

We need more real people running our world.

Actually the Immigration Minister can use his discretion to pick and choose in individual circumstances - hence the ability to stop the deportation of a couple of French au pairs who were connected to rather well off mates.

Also as part of his job:
He said Section 195A of the Migration Act allowed for ministerial intervention and the issuing of any visa deemed appropriate to an individual's circumstances.

Mr Dutton has exercised this power more than 4,000 times to grant somebody a visa to live in Australia since taking on the immigration portfolio.

Im sure he can... and it sounds like a political choice to me.. Its all I was saying.. its political issue.

Do we have unreal people running the world atm..?

European borders aren't "open" - they have a higher refugee intake because:

A) they're closer to most of the conflicts producing refugees

B) they're connected to the landmass these conflicts are occurring on

European countries *still* control their intake, but they also realise their international responsibilities

How is it not political? Personally I would prefer danger to stay out of politics. He doesn't help any cause when he is disliked by pretty every supporter from every other team
Envy , jealousy, covetousness would be more accurate terms.
Every other team would LOVE to have a player of his ilk.

OK Peeps..

This is the PFD thread - and ill leave the posts here as PFD was on topic but its starting to wander off....

Get back to PFD and footy -
No issues with the Social / Religion / Politics discussion but not here
This is a footy board.

Thanks

GO Catters

Paddy would be desperate to light this game on fire, methinks. But will he be able to stop himself from trying to do too much? We've all seen him in desperation mode when he tries to burn off three opponents and drill goals on the run from 55. Hopefully we get the best of both worlds tomorrow night. If he's supported adequately by his team mates, he should have a blinder.

Bit like the whole footy club, really. Most other supporters would love our success and consistency over the last 30 years

On sen this morning Whatley proposed who you "go for" by the GF if your team is not in it this year... is the Bulldogs .. well not as much as 2016 .. its sort of the like the sequel ..not as good as the first... Is it the Lions... well there is no drought story here after their threepeat in 01,02,03 ... is it Wcoast ..maybe only for those that have missed .. etc ... GWS gifted the players ...

and for Geelong ... its without doubt its an obvious annoyance for many that we are still are there... that somehow , someway we refuse to to go away etc..

Id say we almost are there with Haw as the most to be barracked against.. because it seems by many ..that we have more than our share ..and we are due some muck time...

I'd say we're in a worse position than Hawthorn. Sure, we don't have the recent flags, but we destroyed heaps of teams in the early-mid 90s and have positive win records against all teams since 2004 or so.

Hawthorn have been up and down, but we've been a near constant thorn.
