It's fascinating checking on the Hawthorn board... a change in laundry and Dangerfield is suddenly the most arrogant ****** to ever play the game. And a sook and cheat. And yet they never said that of him at Adelaide... almost like we're under their skins again. I won't pop over and bring up Sam Mitchell and the time he told a (Hawthorn supporting, Indian born) nurse that he'd "prefer a white one". Wouldn't want to sully their visions of sainthood against our horrid demon team.
Hi Nice to see they r hurting over there and I hope do it again nxt time we play them. BTW, I like ur name.

Can't believe he missed those two set shots either. He has over 160 goals to his name already so it must have been fatigue given all the work he had done in the game.
Anyone who gets a chance, go watch him play immediately! He's incredibly exciting. Has that Ablett Senior factor about him. You feel like something will happen every time he goes near the ball.
His ability to kick either side of the body is also a massive concern for anyone matching him up.
Built like a brick shizenhousen as well :thumbsu:
Hi Bobby, they were easy goals, but seeing as we won, we can forgive him, mayb he was giving something for the Hawks fans to talk about.
I'm sure he will kick more goals than pts this season. I haven't seen a player play like that ever, but I'm only early 20s
But my most favorite game for a few years.

I mean this sincerely, not condescendingly; when you've seen Ablett Snr. play football live, no one else comes close to being as breathtaking as he. His son is the only one to come close...

Breathtaking footballer.

Fans of all club colours poured through the gates to watch him play.

A freak

For those that were there, what was it like last monday, everytime he got near it...everytime he had possession, everytime he did something special w it. Sounded like it was electric from my lounge room, can just imagine what it felt like live.

Quoted for accuaracy…

It gets said a bit to flowingly these days…" there will never be another"

GAS broke that statement up. He was the one.

And for those who never saw him live, he was the Bradman of AFL. He's the only player that I know that drew fans to the game ( just people in general) to the game just to see what he'd do that week.

Peerless.

GO Catters

As Daz points out, and as you also put it, I simply cannot remember a player who had the raw power, mixed with the finesse that he had.

Sure, Carey was similar, but Gary's speed and ability was just breathtaking. He really had no equal I think

Was pretty awesome to be at Dangerfield's first "real" game for us.

Outside the ground beforehand, there was a bit of a buzz. Had Hawthorn supporters tell me that he'd be easy to contain because he's not that great (I smirked on the inside!). Also got talking to a group of Brisbane and West Coast fans who said they'd mainly come along to watch Dangerfield tear up the 'G.

I sat in the Geelong members area, so there was a heap of anticipation. The cheers started when he came out for a pre-match kick to kick, then as you said, every time he had a possession it was quite electric. Don't think anyone imagined just how impressive his game would be-by the time he took that mark in the fourth we were sitting there with silly grins on our faces.

I wonder sometimes if the anticipation and hype is too much, that it will distract from the ultimate goals of the club, but then I remember this is an injury free bloke in his prime, whose humble enough and GOOD enough not to be distracted by it and instead revels in it and that as a club I don't think they will get caught up in all the "Judd like" stuff.

I'm worried that he is playing too well, he shouldn't be getting almost 20 touches more than the next guy it's not sustainable. Everyone else needs to stand up

Will be awesome when Selwood gets back up to full match fitness and takes some of the burden off Dangerfield, with the likes of Duncan, Caddy, Blitz, Guthrie and Menz when he comes back into the side backing both of them up.

Good luck to opposing sides keeping them all quiet. Like the saying goes, it's nigh on impossible trying to herd cats. ;)

The amazing thing is that Snr was only 185cm tall! From the way he looked and played (and dominated) you would never have thought that he was under 190cm. But his legs, thighs and core were the size of someone 200cm tall. Just a powerful beast.

Also because of his amazing leap, he had the overhead marking capabilities of a ruckman.
