I want a special exemption granted by the AFL whereby the MFC can put players on performance-based contracts. You hit disposal efficiency targets and reduce clangers and you get parts of your contract. You don't and you don't get paid.

Seriously. Every other league in the world has performance-based elements beyond simple match payments written in. Allow the salary cap to include bonus payments approved by the AFL and tell the players to earn their stripes.

Don't blame your dog, we just suck big hairy camel gonads. We also blow big baby chunks. In fact, we suck and blow at the same time.

Seriously, I know we are all supposed to be passionate and eternally devoted to our team, but if we allowed this to dominate our lives too much, we'd all be lining up to neck ourselves. There are times you just have to forget about footy and do something else for a while. You need your recovery time when you get injured every weekend.

Injuries don't help, sure, but the poor level of skill execution by most of the players on the night can't really be defended by injuries. The fit blokes who are out playing should be able to hit targets much more often. They also should make better decisions when under little pressure and give a lot more of a shit about how they're playing, especially guys like Jetta and Petterd who may be leaving at the end of the season.

It beggars belief that there are so many of these guys who just seem to not care when they should be throwing themselves in like nobody's business because they're playing for their careers. I mean, even if you don't want to play in red and blue next year (fair enough), what hope do you have as a trade option or being redrafted when you have such clear issues with your intent as well as your ability? Somebody might actually be interested in the 5th or 8th best guy on the list of the team that finished 3rd from the bottom, particularly if they've got a bit of ticker, but who wants the guy who couldn't even cement a spot in such a team and, not because of lack of talent, but because they're ficken pea-hearted?

Yeah, there's been injuries. Yeah, there's a new game plan to gain confidence in. Yadda, yadda, yadda, none of that's an excuse for not having a crack and not even being bothered by that.

I see Jetta to be a more likely player in a Melbourne premiership team than Petterd. Ricky unfortunately is a lazy footballer and it's why he's always been on the outer. He had one awesome game against Collingwood but hasn't really found a place. Jetta is nice to have around for the cheap crumbing goal and would probably have been best on ground had his 6 inside-50s gone to an actual forward target. He does slacken off, but it's quite clearly because he's grossly unfit.

Anyway, why we have an ordinary team. I'm for getting Cloke. I don't care who we get. We need someone that knows what's going on. To set the pace. Cloke comes from the best of the best and I'd imagine his leadership would be irreplaceable at the Dees. He might not be ideal but I'd still be very happy if we got him, even at $1 million a year.
