Shuey 3-4 weeks.

Shuey aside that’s pretty good reading, particularly some positive news on Yeo

Bailey Williams a chance to play WAFL minutes this weekend✔️✔️✔️

Ice Shuey for as long as possible please. The way I see it we should be getting over the Saints this week regardless, Collingwood is 50/50, we are incapable of winning in Geelong anyways and Freo are sh*t. After that, maybe make him the injury sub for the Hawks game and pull someone like XON or Petch at three quarter time with "general soreness" (if the AFL are going to implement sh*thouse substitution rules then I say exploit them for all they're worth).

Glad to see Yeo progressing. Hopefully wont see any setbacks when his training load increases.

If I was Shuey (or Yeo) I'd be informing the club that I was getting my own private medical advice as it's clear our S & C have NFI.

But in any case as I've said before Shuey's availability should from now on be treated as a bonus rather than taken for granted. O'Neill, Brander maybe even Trew should be getting more opportunities in the middle.

Both Yeo and Shuey have been to see multiple different specialists outside the club. Personally I think and this is purely an opinion as im not a doctor, but i think he needs to try and retain as much strength as possible whilst slimming down by about 5kg's. The less mass to move the less stress you are putting on muscle groups.

This will definitely lead to him being less of a bullocking mid and potentially less explosiveness but it may well prolong his career by a couple of years. I would prefer Shuey at 90% for 2022 and 2023 than him continuing to strain muscles, be out most of this year and see a mid next year retirement etc.

The other thing to take note of is that Shuey is having muscle strains and not tears which could be due to one or certain muscles within the group being stronger than others leading to the weakest link straining and or tearing particularly whilst fatigued. While in season is not the time training to modify his running gait could also lead to less injuries.

well I guess if treatment is not working then they have to revisit all the fundamentals as hawks did for Rioli. Remember how Cyril used to pull a hammy once every 4 weeks?? then he went for like 2 years with no injury and then in an interview he talked about how much Hawks medico's worked hard to change his running pattern and adjusted rearfoot strike versus forefoot strike or middle foot strike. This is why Medico's get paid big $$$. get it right please Eagles cuz I am starting to look at patterns of injuries every season now since 2017. we probably destroyed Judd's career as well by not managing his OP correctly.

Shuey should go back to his body shape of 2011-12 where he spent a big chunk HFF and was able to impact in front of goals and in the midfield.

Shuey is listed as 90kg surely he can cut 3-4kgs and still be some what of a bull he is.

Cyril's issue was biomechanical and originated with poor posture and back dysfunction. For Cyril, he was getting hamstring injuries in his early to mid 20's, and his hamstring strains were of varying degrees of severity (some kept him out for 9 weeks).

Shuey is more a product of just getting older.

Here's a really great article on Cyril and his hamstrings.

Shuey also has an unusual running gait which is why I think it could be part of the issue.

We really should beat Saints, Collingwood and Freo. Geelong in Geelong, it's our best shot in a while...

Got to give shuey at least 4 weeks. Hopefully the physios can find out the cause/causes and modify his program to keep him on the park.

Yeo, hopefully after the bye.

I'd take 5 and 2 after 7, particularly if one loss was against 1st on the ladder by 7 points on their home deck without Shuey and Yeo, and we don't get embarrassed at the Cattery.

I don't think we've had many respectable losses down in Geelong, though.

I think the richest sporting organisation in the Southern Hemisphere would having them see the best medicos available.

Shuey is 30, there’s no magic fix to stop his hammies going ping, it’s a product of his age. Like Simmo said on the weekend, the club has taken a different approach to his rehab each time and they’ll keep exploring every Avenue if they have to.

Some players bodies fail quicker than others. Look at Cyril, who was doing hammies left right and centre from his early 20’s and retired at 28.

As for Yeo, OP has no magic fix either. A mate of mine spent 3 years recovering from it. It just takes time.

They should look at how Richmond manage Cotchin. He has also had several hammie strains due to being old.

You would think so yes, but we don't. In fact, we never have.

Sports medicine/ rehabilitation is my area of work. I have people i graduated with, surgeons I am friends with, strength and conditioning folk I liase with and nobody i have encountered rates our medical team, including me. That's a fact.

Not all medical teams are created equal. Atm, within the sports medicine field, Brisbane and Richmond are leading the pack. Historically, Sydney, Collingwood and Hawthorn are also in the frame.

Us, we have never been anywhere near the top. And again, I sound like a broken record but this is our problem:
We struggle badly to get our players right once they are injured. We do not get injured more then other teams.

Shuey has twice, IMO, been mismanaged: going back on the field against the dogs last season was disgraceful, and a man coming back from a long lay-off with a history of recurrent hamstring injury when the game was done and dusted should have been subbed out at 3 quarter time against port. Period.

As for Yeo, he should have been having adductor release surgery the moment he was ruled out of last season. That he didn't still irritates me because we are looking at him on the sidelines for potentially in excess of a calender year.

As you said, we are the most profitable sporting team in Australia. We should be leading the pack. We aren't. I suspect this is because we are staffing our medical team with guys that are well connected to the club, rather then the best the club can buy. I have long said, the entire medical team should be cleaned out and restaffed. And a good idea, for me, would be head hunting the best and brightest talent from the east coast if need be. We have the cash and the resources, so why this area has yet to be reviewed beggars some questions

A few seasons from now, I would love to be gloating about how our medical team are cutting edge and leading the AFL. Truly.

But to do that, we cannot maintain the status quo and keep hoping for a superior effort
