Unlucky or not, the reality is we've just used our first pick on a speculative kid who's played next to no footy in 2 years before the draft, and now injured for a large chunk of year 3.

Bloody ominous signs.

What a nightmare off-season this is.

Not only this but drafting an injury probe player into a club with a questionable medical capabilities.

That describes Chris Judd as well (dodgy shoulders made him slip to pick 3 in the draft behind Ball and Hodge).

Chesser clearly has talent. This ankle thing is just bad luck. Plenty of our draftees have a rough first year (look at Shuey, Allen missed a lot of the first season injured before a few games late). He'll be back and if we have a bad season, will likely get some games in the second half.

Does anyone now when Yeo got injured?

The icing looked more like an Achilles than an ankle?

I’m praying it’s not an Achilles-related injury.

From personal experience, it’s a long recovery time. It’s been almost 7 months since tearing mine and I’ve only just starting running (more like hobbling) again.

Far out, friggin knew that was going to happen. Promising young talent for us always get long term injuries in their first year.

Winder - Kicked 6 in wafl, comes on as the sub the next week and then gets LTI and misses half the season.
Ryan - Was looking unreal before foot injury in round 4 and missed half the season.
Rioli - was in and out of wafl in his first year with injuries.
Venables - Had built up an impressive first half the season and was about to debut mid season and then got turf toe and missed rest of the season.
Chesser - great preseason and injured within 5 minutes.

So bloody frustrating

JFC if the medicos don't cop a rocket from both Simmo and the board then they never will.

From three ankle injuries sustained in collisions?

Why?

Because three players hurt their ankles in one game?

What would be an interesting exercise is a comparison of significant foot, ankle (syndesmosis) and lower leg stress fracture injuries in WA vs other states (a lot would be WA clubs obviously, but it would also be good to include the injuries incurred by travelling teams).

A lot has been spoken about Optus being too hard, but I've got the feeling Lathlain is the same or worse.

100%

Both the Eagles and Freo have had shocking numbers of ankle, leg injuries in the past three years. I have never notes as many.

The grounds were both newly laid and hard. Without a doubt.

The clubs should jointly fund more research and how to do something to mitigate this issue.

Best part is, the full impact of Covid hasn't hit yet!!! Somewhere between rounds 1-3 half the team will be in iso.

I would have assumed that playing on various grounds week to week the team would know how Optus and lathlain compares
