Tonight was rediculous. Our skill level is so sub-par:

"Bowden comes of Brown and brings it out of defense, good hand ball to Raines who chips to - no its intercepted by Hooper. Ran Hooper to Brown. Brown lines up. Goal."
"Bowden good kick to Newman, gets it moving, kick falls short, good mark by Brennan"
"Raines takes them on, hands to Foley, hands to Jackson, caught, quick hands to Johnson, boots it out of defense - uncontest mark Riscetteli"

I don't know hop many times in the 3rd and 4th quater we couldn't get it over our half back line, but it was pathetic. If Brisbane werent so innacurate we would have lost by easily 4 or 5 goals. We are just a very lowed skilled side.

Players with good foot skills at Richmond: Brown, Bowden, Newman, Tivendale (on his left, shocking on his right), Polak, Deledio, Tambling

Thats as many as i can think of and thats really saying something from a list of 40 odd players
 
Newman and Raines are both overrated IMO - they do what they did tonight game after game and somehow get away with the tag of being 'great small defenders'...purely because they seldom get isolated on a genuinely good forward and spend 90% of their time getting around 'Pettifer pace' HFF's to make their 'runs' and chipping 30m to a man 20m in the clear.

Raines should get dragged to the bench every time he pulls a 45m 'Campbell-kick' (unmarkable with almost as much height as distance which allows every man within 30m in to make the contest) under no pressure whatsoever.

Somehow these blokes get reputations as being 'good' and then get excused all but their most obviously poor games.

Neither are bad footballers and each have their moments of genuine value, but a good side could only barely carry one of them, let alone have both of them regarded as top-10 players.

On top of the skill level, our players fall over more than any other group of grown men I have ever seen. It's a lazy and gutless way to get out of a contest, and if these guys are fully fit as in running ability. I will eat this keyboard I'm typing on, they look shot and it's round 10.

Here is my other sook for the night, when was the last time we saw one of our guys get dragged and cop an earfull from the coach? I'm yet to see it.

3 years into the new regime and i have yet to see a 1% improvement in skill level to what was before. In fact, i would even go as far as to say, we have gone backwards. This take risks and break the lines at all costs thing is all good, when its words, but it is making players look ridicoulous when they they take a risk when there a 10 yold schoolboy player would assess the situation as "it is not feasable, now to take a risk". FFS. I mean how brainless can you be? Oh i have to take a risk, look there is a brickwall, I will try and run through it....;)

Pettifer is the king of doing this and never gets called out for it.

was not caught once tonight, breaks tackles well, and his hanballing is really really good.

Big deal. Foley is our best midfielder by a ****ing mile. He extracts the ball from the middle and runs and takes people on. When he does get caught, he doesnt panic, his handball is still effective.

you are defintely an expert. His handball is still effective huh? why? let me guess...he gets it to a teammate? Now if it were a teammate that was in a better position as opposed to a tiger teamate who had 2 opponents about to throttle him, then it might be construed as somewhat effective. But to give a handball just for the sake of giving the handball, does JS in the effective dept. ;)
 
The play on at all costs scheme is killing guys like edwards and white atm who seem to have adopted it a little too literally. Foley too seems to play on without having a clear idea of what he's going to do with the ball next.

Our overall skill level isn't too bad it's just that our worst offenders are getting the ball alot more regularly then the more accurate disposers. Johnson, Tivendale and Tuck take a bow.

yeah like i said there is smart and there is spirit. Lets just say that in the case of the smart, they might still have spirit, but the ones with spirit, like you, who go around saying...hey at least i went, then it would be safe to say, they are devoid of smarts. It suits the playing list.
pssst...have you noticed how the media has rekindled that old chestnut of 10 teams in Melbourne, being not viable? who do you think the teams that in the gun right now? Notice how the talk is all about performance etc? ;)
 
The decision making errors are coming from the players up the field just as much as the ones with the ball in their hand, too often the only option is to kick to a one-on-one stationary target or bomb it. where are the players creating space, leading, demanding the footy, it's not just a job for forwards... the ridiculous straight-down-an-opposition-players-throat turnovers are inexcusable, raines did it a couple of times being more mindful of clearing the defensive 50 then finding a target but he's capable of alot better, the main offenders are the ones we've come to expect it from weekly.

lke i said the opposition game plan when the play the tigers is set in stone. Flood back and man up on the few who can and leave it up to the laughatects to make the wrong move at the right time. It works a treat. It gives those laughatects the stats,that keep the asleep talking about how good they went, so when you next play the tigers, those same laugh masters are still in the team. ;)

Then you no doubt missed the part where I said neither were bad footballers and each have their good moments. Not reading all of a post you decide to criticise is much like watching a quarter of football and making judgements.

If you want to applaud while Raines kicks sky-balls under no pressure to a one-on-one which quickly becomes a 3-1 contest in their favour, handballs straight to the opposition, then call him a champion because twice a game he runs around a stationary HFF and ends up kicking to the advantage of the opposition in a one-on-one contest, please, go for your life.

If you want to decide Newman is a top-class small defender averaging 14 possies a game, seldom running lines and taking players on, never kicking long to advantage us in a direct, fast ball movement contest, and instead always taking the soft and short way out, again, go for your life.

I'll stick with reality thanks.

Both are usually solid, but neither is topline and pumping up their tyres as being so does us no good as a club - merely perpetuates the trend where players get to a certain level of acceptance then seldom feel they have further improvement yet to make.

The skill level is pathetic. In one quarter no pressure we turned the ball over and I think they did well to pinpoint passes to Brisbane. I hope by the end of the year they learn to kick to someone who has a black jumper with a yellow sash. There is a few players who admire the play and do not pass the ball on. Which is crazy, if they pass off than maybe we would have won. Also who is the clown who kicked backwards near the end of the game?? You have to go down the guts and take a risk.
