So how many of you guys had initial flare ups with roaccutane? And if you did, how much worse did your skin get?

One of the most simple blemish treatments comes from the use of honey.
Take a bit of salt mixed with a few drops of water and spread it on a bandage. Place this over the blemish for a few hours. The salt will soften the top of the blemish causing it to break open. (If it doesn’t open up after a few hours, redo the bandage and leave it on a bit longer.) Then wash it off and gently pat dry. Next, apply a bit of honey to a dry bandage and place it on the blemish. The honey will form a seal over the blemish which will heal rapidly after that. I usually do this part overnight and rinse it off in the morning.
I'm on roaccutane at the moment. 3 and a half months in and it's been amazing so far.
I tried what felt like everything; all sorts of diets, minimycine, dioxycycline, shaving with all sorts of different things, different moustruisers, facewashes, i avoided anything that wouldmake my face red, i would ice my face to reduce swelling, avoid sun light, wash with salt water, change pillow cases every night, short hair, avoided touching my face with anything... no effect.
I did get the initial flare-up, considering I had had it for so long though I didn't really think it was a MAJOR issue. I started on a 20mg dose for 3 weeks before moving to the 40mg dose, which helps to blunt the flare-up a bit.
The flare-up isn't easy to cope with; it comes at a time when the dryness symptoms first appear, there were a few moments where I could imagine how such a drug could affect your mental health if you didn't have faith that the drug would do it's job. I had complete confidence in it though, it is the only available drug that basically GUARANTEES to clear skin up; by literally preventing the sebaceous glands from producing oily sebum. That means testerone etc. can do whatever it wants, it's just not going to affect the sebaceous glands.
After 2 months I noticed a gradual improvement, things were clearing quicker, less redness, less sensitive, and now i'm getting to the stage where I wake up in the morning with no pimples; after experiencing moderate acne for so long it's quite a confidence boosting feeling. I eat whatever, can go to sleep without having a shower, don't need to constantlywash it. Everything feels like it's healing. Such a good feeling.
In terms of the symptoms, i use moisturised twice a day and carry a little tub of carmex everywhere. Because I'm doing it over winter I haven't really noticed the sunburn thing, i am conscious of spending too much time in the sun though. That's basically it for the symptoms.
It is a tetragen and causes birth defects so it's not light, but honestly it's just so worth it. Would recommend it to anyone, it's as much of a mental boost as it is a physical one.
My advice to anyone thinking of going on it is to do your research, familiarise yourself 100% with the science of how it stops acne. Once you have complete confidence in it, get on it ASAP.
I had a wet shave at the barber and still got irritated skin from it. I'm destined to never be clean shaven
something different for those wanting healthier ways of dealing with zits.
use organic honey.

In a perfect world you would get honey from bees that have worked on trees that are known in the herb world to have anti bacterial properties.Manuka honey is supposed to work well, read some good things.

Reviews here have been uniformly positive which is good. However, situation at the moment means that I probably couldn't do it. If it dries my skin out more than the chlorine already does, it is going to be painful. Moreso, if the sunburn is correct, I am in the midst of footy season. So, that doesn't appeal to me at the moment. It is something I may look to try soon enough, though.
Fair enough, not sure the exact nature of your work but for me it's really only my face that is dry, with a decent moisturiser it's really a non-issue. With the sunburn part; in winter it's not really an issue. I started in late February and was very careful to avoid the sun or to use sunscreen, but since April I haven't used sunscreen OR avoided sunlight and it's been fine.
Everyone reacts differently when they're on it but with the proper products its fairly manageable.

Do you mean you can't use sunscreen, or you have to use a lot?
Well I'm about to bite the bullet and go on roaccutane. My mum and sister did and had no adverse effects, except for the dry lips and cheeks – nothing (the right) moisturiser and some carmex can't fix.
My main issue is growth. I was told I've still got a fair bit left in me, and that I might be due for a growth spurt. Some anecdotal evidence suggests roaccutance stunts growth and closes growth plates. But did anyone here experience it?
And how long did it take you guys to see results? Did scarring clean up?
There was a noticeable change at about the third month, so don't worry if it seems like it's doing nothing for a while. I still have scarring from when I took it and it apparently increases the time they take to heal. My dermatologist said they'd fade in time. Another thing is I didn't complete the full treatment as my cholesterol increased too much so I stopped after about 4-5 months, I think, so my results aren't after a complete course.

Do you know what MG dosage your on? I think the growth issue only effects people that are on high doses (80-120mg), who usually go 9 months on 9 months off, And can be on the script for several years.
Ah, cool. My script's for 20MG. Considering my dermo told me about the growth thing, I doubt she'd be keen on me having it if it would halt my growth. Really looking forward to it, actually.
