Skippos's Draft Resource 2016

I'm a big wrap on Rotham. Has a few similarites with Jake Lever but he's more athletic. I'd be interested in his testing but I think he's a very capable defender closing down leads and is clearly very quick by mind; zones off well, runs the right lines and reads the flight well. Spoiling game is good and decisions on when to mark/spoil good. Good intercept game/offensive game. Skills are good.

He's just a pure footballer for mine. Would love an extra inch on him but currently options are open and I'd like to see him play around the ground a bit more. I just look at him compared to the others on the board and, based on what I saw last year, I'm very confident he walks into an AFL side and makes a spot his own for 10 years. Pure footballer.

Rotham is very interesting has had so many recruiters watching him play early this season.
He is the one from WA that will shoot up the list top ten pick i think.
If he has a carnival like Weitering did last year watch him shoot up the order.
Is such a smooth mover and always has time, could make the transition to a big bodied mid this kid
can do it all.

The other one I like from wa is Luke Strandica he moves similar to Lynch from GC.
Can be hit and miss but has all the tools.

When I made this thread - there was a Brisbane academy forward sitting in the back of my head but I couldn't for the life of me remember his name. The weekend made it rather obvious; it was Ballenden. I agree; most decisions you make should be with Ballenden in mind. If the point of view is that he's a potential franchise forward and partner to Schache, provided you're confident he'll be ready for your window - it probably isn't a need you should cover this year. He's one I'd forgotten in my initial assessment.
If we're looking at drafting more tall forwards, this year wouldn't be the time to do it. We've got a fair oversupply of super tall (198cm+) forwards, particularly in the reserves. We will lose some KPPs at the end of the season, but they're probably going to be defenders- Paine will be gone next season, Merrett and/or Beasley might join him. Apart from that, it looks too early to make a call on any of our other talls. Skinner will be back from injury next year as well, adding another tall to the list. A mature key defender + a backup ruckman is more what we'll be after I think.

Are there any Crameri/Gunston/Tom Lynch (Adelaide) type 3rd tall forwards in the draft this year? I think we need that connecting type player.
Brett Blair is a 189cm strong leading forward who can kick a bag. Pretty sure hes playing as an over-ager this year but has started the year in very strong form. One to watch

Hi Skippos, cheers for the resource!

Wondering if any of the inside mids have that yard or two of breakaway pace? Any players who have that Viney/Brayshaw combative nature?

Noted you had Hamish Brayshaw at 50 - chance to push into the first round or is he more a later pick?

Graham a chance to push into the top ten? Good enough tank?

Do you think Goddard and Ladhams will get taken early or will the trend of rucks being picked late in the draft continue?

Shawn Watson bagged 4 for QLD against the Jets

196cm and 92Kgs Wow.

Been looking pretty good in the Championship games so far as well. Absolutely massive lad.

Hey Skippos, good to see you back.

I'm sure you get sick of answering questions about who the "best kick" is but I'm interested in learning a bit about the particularly damaging forward half-kicks in the draft this year. Those types that can see play developing ahead of time and really draw those in front of them into good spots with precision placement.

My assessment of our skill level in general is that we're capable of hitting obvious options (save for last weekend's game...) and have a few outstanding kicks, but we lack those types capable of creating opportunities and drawing our forwards into the right spots. One player who illustrates this is Jack Redpath - he's not a particularly outstanding player but as his leads are very aggressive he presents an obvious option and straightens us up going forward. The likes of Stringer are not quite as natural leading up to the ball and need the entry kick placed in space in front of them. Unfortunately many of our midfielders look for obvious options and then if none are present either go laterally (allowing the opponent time to flood back and further expose our lack of marking ability inside 50) or pump the ball long to our midget squad (which is less of a problem when Boyd is fit, but still isn't ideal).

Part of the problem is our nonexistent forward structure but I also feel we have too many linkmen and not enough finishers, and would like to enter the draft with a view to rectifying this. Whether that comes from our first round selection or something further down I'm not particularly fussed - I'm just curious to find out whether any of this ilk have caught your eye?

Cheers.

Hi guys,

Just a quick note - unfortunately I won't be able to commit to a phantom/resource this year. I always knew time would be a concern this year but underestimated just how little I would have - and as a result it'd be nothing short of dishonest to continue to present 'opinions' when I'm only getting to one game a week at best and lacking the time to research and watch footage from interstate/champs games. I highly recommend Bishop as a source of information for those who had come to appreciate my work over the last few years. Hopefully I'll be back one day, but it won't be this year.

Cheers.

Strnadica has few tools , lack of competitive go one missing . Did not get call up for Combine . Probably too much one trick pony , strong lead with average kick

G'day Skippos - still around mate? Was wondering what your opinion was of Adelaide's 2016 draft.
