Fantastic game by Skipworth... period.

As for his "AFL level skillsets".. didn't people say the same things about Bickley (can't kick, slow....)?

And with respect to the long goal of his, isn't that the second time he's done that this year? Didn't he kick one from 50 in either the first or second game?

its was a great game by skippy, According to the sunday footy show he is leading the afl in goal assists.

That's a brilliant stat, if true, and further acknowledgement to Skip's WORTH to the team.

By the way, goal assists is one of the most important stats in the AFL and yet it doesn't appear in the normal newspaper stats sheets. Most annoying.

Tell me about it! I've been going to the sites of Prowess and ChampionData, no dice.

It would give certain players far more credit than they actually get, and would add yet another string to the bow of current day champions.

Whenever me and a mate had a kick at the park a few years back, he would be Carey, and as a joke I was always Skipworth. Ahh good times, now I 'am' Skipworth and proud.

;)

That is a super stat and I am stoked that the little fella is doing so well in a very important area. Surely a coach would see that stat and decide that someone good needs to look after this lad.

where do you get stats like "goal assists" ? they don't seem to appear anywhere
I don't know; I saw it pop up during the Port-Richmond game at one stage (Foxtel I presume given the graphics and the low standard of camera work ;) ) - on the stats bar at the bottom of the screen as a player was lining up for goal. Something like "Goals: 1 Marks: 5 Score Assists: 1". First time I recall seeing it.

I agree, it is an infinitely more relevant stat than some of the stuff they use.

:D If he keeps producing like this it's going to put holes in my argument certainly.

I still maintain that he can do things like today, but still he's not the "type" of player we need - our smalls need to be able to carry the ball across the lines - we need some pace.

I can imagine how much work at the selection table was put into stopping Skipworth? - hence he doesn't get opponents respect and on a days when he's hot this is going to happen.

Once he has the oppositions respect he doesn't have the skills to cope IMO

Not going to deride his day because I have ALWAYS said he works his backside off and is getting the maximum return on his skills - today is a day he will long remember.

I'm currently listening to Adam Simpson on Fox Footy and contrary to what you have said above WW, he said that it was discussed before the game how Skippy got 3 Brownlow votes last time we played the Roos.

Seems like they were pretty aware that Skippy can at least play a bit, wouldn't you say?? ;) :p

:p your kidding me

Maybe something out of respect that is said on radio - can't imagine him saying Skipworth ........Who???????? never heard of him.

You of all people should understand how the media operates ;)

PS - Everyone on an AFL list can play footy well - just that your benchmarked against your peers so some can't match it with their better opponents

Couple that with Skippy leading the league in goal assists and I am sure they would have given a fair bit of thought to who plays on him and how they play him ;)

Hang on ! - now you must be a journalist because you've read a post around this info and now it's fact

Fact is who and where is this stat maintained, and who can vouch for its accuracy?

Every player is discussed, but some more than others - guessing here but IMO Roo, Macca, Goody, Thompson, Edwards, and even Perrie would have commanded more chatter around the selection table than young Skippy.

I actually rewatched the game and the stat is there in one of those pop up things that they give out every game. Hayden Skipworth leads the league in goal assists. Its on the actual replay take another look ;)

Of course they would command more attention but if I was a coach of any side I would take a particular note of that stat and coupled with the fact that the player in question got 3 brownlow votes the last time we met, I would make sure that he is not given too much room to move.

You can't seriously suggest that Dean Laidley wouldn't have given a fair bit of thought of who would play on Skipworth considering the circumstances??????

Nope!

Anyway it didn't work if he did.

Brownlow votes from last year is no indicator of how a player will play this year - too many variables.

But if Laidley did put a "tight tag" on our most damaging player Sippy was good enough to get away ;)

Do I detect a slight note of sarcasm here, WW?? :p

Also given that he has slipped under the radar again, do you think that Laidley will show Skippy (or Sippy as you call him :p ) even more respect next time?

Or do you still think that he won't rate any more thought than the prospect of a raunchy night with Magda Szubanski?? :D

Sarcasm, what sarcasm :p

No Sippy had Laidley's utmost respect ;)

At least now, after two games in a row where Sippys been dominant, I think next time we'll see Archer on him
