Not sure the Scotchies would agree with you. They seem to play for continuing their record as the team to spend the most consecutive years in A Grade. Premierships don't seem to be a high priority for them.

Don't worry about us Scotchies Sammy, as they say, you have got to be in it to win it. Look out for a strong, fit, hard running Cardinals side this year, we'll be there!!!

Master,

What is the story with Collins going to play D-Grade with Old Carey? Is he past his best, or is he still a solid player?

Good morning Rocket,
Collo is certainly a loss, he has given us great service. He has decided that he is not getting younger and all of the boys like the Heppells, Parton, Angus etc want to try and get Carey up the grades before their footy is finished.
Look out for the Carey boys to win it this year.

Master,

Which Heppell is playing this year, or both?? Martin or Malcolm? That would be a huge plus. I hadn't heard this one. As well as an association with an A-Grade team, i follow Carey closely as once upon a time in the early 90's i had a kick down there!

I believe the once great Leigh Small is their recruiting guru and he has manged to secure Pete Busse', BOTH Heppell boys and a cast of other ex VAFA A grade guns back to Bulleen.

Guys is it OK to bring the genuine VAFA talk into the VAFA thread or the A section thread. I'm sure a lot of people would like to know how OH have recruited or how OT are travelling or how many OS have lost. Don't leave this talk in the absolutely ridiculous 'SKOB young guns 2006' thread. Only by chance did I come across this, and I'm sure when people read the title of this thread they're going to look elsewhere.

Out with the old and in with the young crew for season 2006 at SKOB. Young guns like 'Chubba' Dowd, Flash Charles, Plugga Lynch, Rombo Junior, The Wisseling dixie Dylan and The Sullitwins are sure to take their golden chance to start SKOBs new era in pursuit of the holy grails, B Section and A Section flags. With their new home ground at Elsternwick Park, the young SKOB brigade will show that mateship developed over years at school is a stronger bond than the dirty money, no name clubs with no real history in meaningless comps that are out there ready to chew up and spit out an underperforming ring in.
So I say, this is the best chance in 9 years for the under 22's in the green, gold and blue to come through and show what they can do...

played with "flash" charles at elstenwick in one game last year and he was our best player when we got flogged, did get a fair bit of the ball so im sure he would be handy for st kevs this year.

Not sure who Leigh Small is??, Busse has been around for a long time, played club18's with Carey last year. Think his best footy is behind him. Definately have recruited well, with Collins and some Uni Blues guy, plus a host of others. Still not convinced about Heppells playing!

Street, I take it you played in the VAFA U19 rep game, what club are you from?
Young Flash Charles is a Nick Fraser/Paul Greenham clone, he had some terrific A grade games last year, towelled up Rice and Beetham, will be a good solid youngster this year.

Mate i would rather keep that to myself where i played last year- no point really giving away club/name. I'm under 19s again though if that is any help to you ;) . That interleague game was the only time i played with him, he looked good at training too, and does show a bit like you said. Hopefully "flash charles" has a good year for St Kevs :thumbsu:

The majority of posters on this site are just too lazy to go the extra yard required. That's also their excuse for playing in the Ammos. "Oh yeah, the Hawks were after me, but I had to work on Tuesday nights at the TAB." Thankfully, not everyone who plays in the VAFA is like that.

both heppells are not playing at old carey. not a chance. Dont think they are playing at all and havent for years. they never played A grade either, played afl and sanfl.

Correct!

Martin is coaching Mitcham, and if Mal was to play anywhere, it would be there!

paul Kaos, is that so, how long have they been coaching mithcam and what have they been up too? what league do mitcham play in? last i heard they were both overseas going ballistic for years.

1. This has bugger all to do with "SKOB young guns" - should be on the D Grade thread.

2. Buffolo -Mitcham play in 1st Division of the Eastern Football League and (according to the EFL website www.efl.org.au) Martin Heppell was appointed senior coach of Mitcham in October 2005

I agree, it would be highly unlikely Mal would play at Old Carey given his brother is coaching at Mitcham.

:thumbsu:

I confirm the status of the Heppell boys. MAl may be a chance not to play there though. When he captained Mitcham he was constantly targeted by fat, useless pricks from clubs like Bayswater that couldn't get a kick.

All they can do is try and break a good players' jaw, and I know he was sick of that sort of crap. So maybe he will play ammos to get away from pointless thuggery.

Martin has been coaching Box Hill reserves for the last couple of years, and I don't think Mal has been playing at all.

Street, Sammy Ryan had a great year last year and was about to be selected in the seniors when he hurt his knee and had to have a reco. He will miss this year but he will be the SKOB senior runner, which is terrific...outstsnding person and obviously has great footy potential.

Thats dissapointing- played against him in the junior days when he captain glen iris but hadn't heard anything of or about his footy until last year at st kevs. He will come back better than ever.

Also Brian- what's your involvement at st kevs? you do seem to know a fair bit about them ? player/coach/fanatic ?

I think the term "stalker" might be more appropriate. :p

Quality Sammy...I am just a regular player, I have played 250 plus games there and am finishing my stellar carreer the way I started it, in the Clubbies...
