I want to use this for prank calls but apparently it isn't free for landlines and mobiles but it is to call other skype users. And we don't have credit cards to pay and can't be arsed paying with money orders. And yeah I could prank call other skype users but they would know about it compared to a startled landline or business line.

However some people have said you get some free credit for signing up a free account. Is this true?

How many other people use it?

My parents have it. It isn't free to call non-Skype phones but it is extremely cheap. My parents call England all the time and pay hardly anything.

Why would you want to make prank calls anyway?

Forgive me for bumping a dumb thread, but I have some serious questions about Skype and didn't want to get the "search function n00b" reply if I started a new thread.

Do you have to use Skype through a computer headset or can you call with a regular phone and still save money? I spend a lot of money calling the US and this seems like a great product, but I don't want to sit at my computer and talk.

I've visited the website but I'd rather get the info from someone who's actually used it, keep it simple lol.

You can purchase a Skype compatible phone from most stores that stock phones. Saw some in Kmart not long ago. Just look for the Skype logo on the box.
Remember, if you call Skype to Skype it's 100% free anywhere in the world, so try to get your US counterparts to get on Skype as well. :thumbsu:

skype is awesome.... but you can always get phone cards as well.

ahhh crank calls... what fun they were. Remember once when we pocketed a heap of business cards from a fish bowl in a Mexican Restaurant, then went and rang everyone saying they had won a free dinner .... the poor restaurant was under the pump come the next Saturday night.

Would the Skype phone replace my regular homeline phone, or would I use one for Skype and the other for everything else? (sorry if this is a dumb question)

I like it how the mafia have taken to Skype to avoid phone taps.

I like to think this would be an avatar:

Johnny Tightlips FTW!

Does anyone know about the Unlimited Country option? If I pay the monthly/quaterly subscription do I get unlimited calls to any US phone, not just Skype to Skype?

Anyone got any good suggestions for some affordable Skype-compatible phones? Being in Bunbury my options are limited, but if there are any online that'd be a great help.

I havent found Skype to be that cheap for local and STD type calls.

When you ring a 1300 number they always seem to direct you to a NSW organisation. Like ring the RACV 1300 number here in Victoria and im put through to the N.R.M.A. in Sydney! Same thing happened on another 1300 number.

Always getting spam calls or messages - at least 1 a day. Easy to block the users but just a pain.
