Slaps
Overall effort by the group. Courageous, committed, and positive. Even when we had two key defenders down, and West Coast got a run on, we still fought back right to the end.
Jones had his best game in a while, possibly ever. He was fantastic inside the packs and outside the packs. Showed some great pace, kicking was good, work ethic always high, and made himself dangerous with a goal and some assists.
Johnson played really well against the best ruckman in the league. Back against the wall stuff after an ordinary start to the season. Got plenty of the ball, used his body in contests, and stamped some authority on the game today.
Moloney continued his fine year with another great game, one of his best for a long time too. Don't know of his official stats, but surely he had heaps of contested possession and clearances.
Miller, Petterd and Maric all took their chances in front of goal today and combined for 7 goals straight. Part of the reason why we were still in the game. Miller is limited but gives his all. Petterd is not a key position but has to play above his weight for the time being. And Maric really bounced back well after his poor game last week.
Rivers' courage, Davey's clean disposal, Grimes and Morton getting 56 disposals and 29 marks combined, Sylvia's contested marking, Bartram's steal and goal, and Bennell's class.
Sledges
Warnock had a poor game I thought. Beaten in many contests, and was poor with the ball in crucial times.
Robertson, despite kicking two straight and taking a couple of nice marks (after coming off a long term injury), cost us a couple of times at crucial moments in the third quarter. Dropped a chest mark inside 50, had a shot at goal which was a floater and went straight to Cox, and also missed the leading Bate with his kick. Only three incidents, but all crucial.
Have Bruce and McLean forgotten how to kick?
Our kick outs are too slow, too inaccurate, and rarely damaging. Some major work needs to be done at training.
Again, poor skills and decision making hurt us at the most crucial times. You've gotta punish the opposition when going into the forward line, but sadly we don't do that enough. We gift them opportunities and let them off the hook far too much.
We need Sylvia to play consistently for four quarters, not just one or two. When he gets the ball he is damaging, but he needs to ensure that he gets it at least 5 times each quarter.
