Slaps

Overall effort by the group. Courageous, committed, and positive. Even when we had two key defenders down, and West Coast got a run on, we still fought back right to the end.

Jones had his best game in a while, possibly ever. He was fantastic inside the packs and outside the packs. Showed some great pace, kicking was good, work ethic always high, and made himself dangerous with a goal and some assists.

Johnson played really well against the best ruckman in the league. Back against the wall stuff after an ordinary start to the season. Got plenty of the ball, used his body in contests, and stamped some authority on the game today.

Moloney continued his fine year with another great game, one of his best for a long time too. Don't know of his official stats, but surely he had heaps of contested possession and clearances.

Miller, Petterd and Maric all took their chances in front of goal today and combined for 7 goals straight. Part of the reason why we were still in the game. Miller is limited but gives his all. Petterd is not a key position but has to play above his weight for the time being. And Maric really bounced back well after his poor game last week.

Rivers' courage, Davey's clean disposal, Grimes and Morton getting 56 disposals and 29 marks combined, Sylvia's contested marking, Bartram's steal and goal, and Bennell's class.

Sledges

Warnock had a poor game I thought. Beaten in many contests, and was poor with the ball in crucial times.

Robertson, despite kicking two straight and taking a couple of nice marks (after coming off a long term injury), cost us a couple of times at crucial moments in the third quarter. Dropped a chest mark inside 50, had a shot at goal which was a floater and went straight to Cox, and also missed the leading Bate with his kick. Only three incidents, but all crucial.

Have Bruce and McLean forgotten how to kick?

Our kick outs are too slow, too inaccurate, and rarely damaging. Some major work needs to be done at training.

Again, poor skills and decision making hurt us at the most crucial times. You've gotta punish the opposition when going into the forward line, but sadly we don't do that enough. We gift them opportunities and let them off the hook far too much.

We need Sylvia to play consistently for four quarters, not just one or two. When he gets the ball he is damaging, but he needs to ensure that he gets it at least 5 times each quarter.

Sledge
Colin Sylvia - That last shot he had at goal, the runner was out there telling him he had about a minute and a half left and Col is busy worrying about the man on the mark and slowly trodding back, by all means set yourself but at least jog backwards instead of dawdling.

On a similar note, when Dunn got that late free kick, he tried to earn a 50m penalty by not taking the ball and making it look like Cox hadn't returned it properly. The ball then bounced away, and Dunn was trying to argue with the umpire. Just grab the ball, play on, and kick it long!

Only a small thing, but it's the little things that can sometimes make a difference. If you're behind with just minutes to go, don't waste time!

Tad harsh I think there Dez. Brock McLean, slowly improving..perhaps but still needs to lift for me. Probably a good decision not giving him the captaincy in hinesight. While even captains can have bad form, he isn't demonstrating on fmuch field leadership with his actions for me. I'm almost hoping he is carrying a niggling injury to explain his form.

The whole team for playing great attacking footy, i love watching the way they run the ball out of defence and the switch kick into the middle of the ground. And for playing with 20 men for a half.

Grimes made some turnovers but run of the half back was fantastic.

Morton made some mistakes but overall used the ball well.

Maric im glad he was given another chance 13 touches 2 goals 100% efficency hav patience with our youngsters.

Paul Johnson played one on one and broke ever with Cox.

Moloney and Jones win a lot of contested footy and use the ball so well now.

Warnock battles hard but for a senior player in the back half makes to many mistakes. Will have to stand up now Frawley and Rivers will be out for a couple of weeks at least.

If you think Warnock makes mistakes then roll back the clock a few years and remember the glory era of Nicholson and Carroll.
Who could forget that cheer that escorted Nicho off the ground and out of the ruck in that Dogs game at the Dome.

All the Bruce criticism from people on here, everyone is acting as if he butchered every touch he got. Fact is Bruce picked up 33 disposals (16 kicks, 17 handballs) with a disposal efficiency of 82% which is excellent.

Agreed, he is ever reliable in defence and adds some senior experience to the yung guys has good hands over head and is versatile. Sure he is prone to the odd shanked kick but most of the times uses it well by foot and even better by hand.

I still have nightmares when I think of Nicholson.

I think we should even ban the name 'Nicholson' from ever being used on this board. Nobody deserves to remember big Al running around in a MFC top:thumbsu:

Slaps : The young brigade in our backline. This is where our resurgence back into a consistent team will commence.

Sledge: McLean needs to lift. This bloke looks unfit and overweight to me. As slow as a wet week.

Gee what a surprise, a McLean sledge.

Honestly even if he played an awesome game you'd still be on here slagging him off.

What is your obsession with pace? Pace isn't a necessity for every player, look at someone like Sam Mitchell. He does exceptionally well and isn't blessed with explosive pace.

It was funny the first time, now you are just trolling. Over the 2007/2008 preseason he and Jones went head to head in all preseason training. We didn't get as many reports from last year but I presume he did what he always does which is give 110% on the track. He might not be fully fit but he will be trying his hardest to be, and I just don't see where you are pulling the overweight line from.

Also if your gonna take your time inside the last minute.... KICK THE BLOODY GOAL!!!
