I suppose Angus Young is another overrated guitarist right?

And of course there's a correlation.. just like there'd be a correlation between people who like Britney and Christina or people who liked Snow Patrol and Coldplay. I don't really see the point of your comment other than to advertise your personal prejudice against GnR and AC/DC which limits your objectivity somewhat when discussing the prowess of their respective guitarists.. I would've thought.
Yeh not a massive A. Young fan either.

AC/DC, GnR, The Angels, INXS, Cold Chisel etc etc. Those sort of bands.

Slash is an extremely talented guitarist.

Prince is an extremely talented musician.

I am not a huge GnFnR fan and I've never even listened to Velvet Revolver or Snakepit.
Prince is a great guitarist too don't worry about that, he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Another one who doesn't is John Mayer, great great guitarist under all teh pop stuff and famous chicks!

And yeah, Slash is a very good player too, plays great sounding solos without overblowing the technical stuff, very influential too.

Yep. The reason I said musician for Prince is purely because he's extremely talented on more than just the guitar. Hated him when I was a kid but respect the crap out of him now :thumbsu:

dont watch this, will be to boring and simple and not intense enough for you, just a average boring band going through the motions.

p.s how was your greenday concert?
The one I attended when I was 12?

Brilliant. Loved every minute of it.

Had to sit through shitty Simple Plan though. Even back then I knew they were shit.

Keep in mind that he was playing with Tom Petty and Jeff Lyne, along with Harrison's son, who are brilliant musicians in their own right and so they add to the overall affect. Clapton, who played the solo in the original version of How My Guitar Gently Weeps, would be impressed by Prince.

Clapton's performance of How My Guitar Gently Weeps, from Concert for George, is simply awesome. Watch this soon as it will no doubt be taken down from youtube in the next few days. Also, Concert for George is one of the best albums I have heard.

Gotta love it when you're introduced into a new and exciting musical world...

Still interested in people's thoughts on slash's solo in the OP's video.

I can respect he has talent but on the whole I don't see what others see.

As far as contemporary guitar virtuouso's go, I'd rather listen to John Frusciante or Omar Rodriges-Lopez over Slash.

Just remember, as IsDon pointed out, that it is While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Not sure why I wrote, How.

Speaking of guitarists, everyone bows to Clapton, particularly during his Cream days. It helps with Ginger Baker on drums and Jake Bruce on Bass.

If you enjoy then get a hold of the 1968 Farewell Concert and the 2005 Reunion. I have both and they are brilliant.

Everyone bowed to Clapton.. until an unknown guitarist got up to jam with the band one night and literally blew Clapton off the stage.

Jimi Hendrix. Is a great story in the first episode of a great BBC series that's on at the moment (may have finished? I downloaded it) called the 7 Ages of Rock.

Yeah, I am watching that on the abc. Hendrix is brilliant, but I just prefer to listen to Clapton.

In terms of modern guitarists my favourites are Morello and Trucks. Morello gets criticised for screwing around with his guitar, but I like it.

I saw Derek Trucks support Clapton when he was in Aus. a few years ago and he blew me away.

Claptons guitar playing in Cream is undoubtedly one of the biggest influences on my own guitar style. I based alot of my initial leads around the riffs he played in songs like Crossroads and White Room, and they evolved from their. Love his cream stuff.

Derek Trucks is amazing.

And while we're talking about Jimi Hendrix, may i bring up a certain Mr. Stevie Ray Vaughan. A man very much Hendrix equal, and some may argue superior in pure guitar chops. Just love his guitar tone, and the ferocity behind his playing.

Hendrix though is assuredly the most influential guitarist of all time- through his use of feedback, his stage persona, and his mixture of soul and blues into rock.

Also, MARK KNOPFLER.

Agree with Hendrix being the most influential guitarist. Glad you mentioned Knopfler as he is way up there in my list of favourite guitarists. I saw him when he was out here a few years ago and he was great.

Massive 70's prog rock fan even though he's a funky punka.:D

Was in the mojo prog rock magazine.

Wrote an intro about how much he loved prog rock.

Johnny Rotten was a progger before he was a punk.

Boring band.

Axl Rose' voice is incredibly grating and I can't get half way through a GnR song without wanting to stab at my ears.

Oh, and he's a massive tool too.
jrussell have to agree with you ON THIS ONE

axl is a ****wit.

appetitie for destruction is a great album.. GNR were good

i just read slash´s autobiography...very good read...pretty amazing life. all it does is re affirm the notion that axl is a tool.

Knopfler's an amazing song writer aswell though. Just writes these incredibly atmospheric folk/rock tunes. I love alot of the stuff on his newer albums. (Je Suis Desole, Border River).

Telegraph Road (especially live) is one of my favourite songs of all time....

He just cuts it up in this version.

exactly. that's like saying john frusciante is an overrated guitarist (which he ain't) because you don't like RHCP (which i do not).

But that isn't the point I'm making..

There are far better guitarists in the world who make far better music than he does. The bands he plays for are irrelevent. Just stating that GnR are shit.
