No that is Slater when comparing to Thurston. Thurston has carried average plod teams to finals and has been so much better at rep level. It isn't close, and that isn't considering Fittler and Johns who are miles ahead of Slater too. Slater is very good don't get me wrong but he is basically a finishing fullback. Is he much better than Brett Stewart.
Stewart shouldn't even be taljed about as being as good as Slater.

Anyone who doesn't have Lockyer ahead of Slater, Thurston and Smith either (a) knows nothing about RL or (b) only started watching RL after 2003.
So much this. Slater is very good, Lockyer is one of the best of all time who has dominated two positions. Slater hasn't. Not even close.

Never heard of him.
The halfback of the 2006 Broncos Premiership side (very good team) but your typical run of the mill state league player. So I don't think the term a great half back is the key to a great side (certainly helps).

Did have a bloke named Lockyer next to him though!

Exactly he was clearly the key, just saying a halfback isn't necessarily the key to a great team. Probably the phrase a good playmaker (whether that be a five-eighth, half or hooker) is the key to a great team, would be more appropriate.

Usually need 2 of the 3. Even that Brisbane side which is probably the exception still had Shaun Berrigan at hooker from memory. It does show how good Lockyer was though, he literally carried that team to the premiership that year. You can usually make the 8 with 1 of the 3 (if he is in Thurston's class) but to win the title you need at least 1 more of the 3 to be high quality.

That 06 team was truly a great side that forward pack was incredible.

But the fact they won the comp with a spine that played not even half a season in those positions is unbelievable.

1. Hodges (Moved to fullback in the back end of the season following an injury to Hunt).
6. Lockyer (Best player in the comp nuff said)
7. Perry (Plucked from QCup half way through the season)
9. Berrigan (Moved from the centres to hooker after injuries to Ennis & his brother).

My memory wasn't awful that's a positive lol, thought it was Berrigan. Was a very underrated hooker though. Luckily Ennis went out though as he couldn't pass back then let alone now. Lockyer was simply outstanding. His final series was one of the best final series' I have seen from 1 player. Forwards were elite though- Webcke, Tallis, Civonoceva, Carroll, Thorn (maybe?...could be in NZ rugby then not sure), Carlaw (dead set was the only year this bloke did anything...when on song he was unbelievably good).

I still maintain Hodges could have been one of the best fullbacks in the modern era if it wasn't for injuries! I always remember the try he set up in the prelim that year.

If you talk about that 2006 Broncos premiership Paul Simpkins had a lot to do with them winning that grand final.

10 years on and still whinging. Meh he had very little influence and No team would have beaten a side with Lockyer in that form in the last 6-8 weeks.
You mean except for Melbourne and the Dragons, both of whom beat Brisbane in the last 8 weeks...

Dragons always used to beat Brisbane regardless, it was Brisbane's bogey side. Melbourne were the closest but when it came down to the crunch Lockyer could play better when it mattered in the GF. Was the form player in the last month and a half

You have obviously forgotten tge poke done at the tine that showed that around 72% of people thought he influenced the game

The better side won period. A decision here and there means no difference. The ref doesn't miss the tackles or drop the ball. Blaming the ref is such a cop out (in any sport I might add)
