So a few of us at Draft Central including eDPS and I did a live on-air Phantom Draft for our latest podcast which you can catch here

Was a bit of fun with quite a few surprises, and it's always hard when there's a fair few that each of us know the other will target and try and pick accordingly.

Jay Rantall to Gold Coast.

Brisbane a little annoyed is an understatement.

I wish you had Brisbane trade 29 and 34 to Fremantle for 22 and 58 when a bid came in for Henry.

Taking 21 and 22 at the beginning of the second round, I would hope both Rantall and Gould would be both available.

Also suits the narrative of Brisbane taking both Cumberland and Coleman later in the draft.

Had a bit of a look last night how the trade would look. If the bid on Henry comes after Fremantle’s second selection, 29 (30) pays most of the points, and if the bid comes from Hawthorn at pick 11 (12), pick 34 (35) slides back to pick 39. If the bid comes later, then residual pick comes in further.

I think Fremantle would be happy with that, with the potential to have their fourth pick inside the top 40.

As for Gold Coast, I don’t understand the Weightman selection at their 3rd selection. GC will have Rankine, Buderick and Rosas competing competing for spots in the forward line, along with Ainsworth splitting time between small forward and midfield. And they potentially add Josh Gore in the rookie draft.

My view is GC need to look for running defenders to replace Harbrow and Hanley. I think GC will have Will Day high up their board at their 3rd selection.

Also I had a look the GWS and a Tom Green bid. With GWS’s points this year and next, they actually have enough points to match a bid on Green at pick 5 and a Delahunty bid at pick 46. Obviously the later the bid on Green, the further up the draft they match a bid on Delahunty.

Unless there’s a rule about clubs not being able to access all their picks/points in next years draft.

Wondered this as well, almost certain there's no rule against us completely copping the points from next years draft

I listened to the pod this morning, well done guys! Just from a Hawthorn perspective I found it interesting (and slightly disappointing). What was the thought process behind trading away two top picks only to reach for a KPP who Hawthorn don't really need after bringing in Hartley and Frost? I woulldn't be unhappy if McAsey was selected at 11 if available, but I would hate for us to sacrifice our next years First to trade up to 5/6 to take him.

Hartley and Frost are good depth sorts but McAsey has the potential to be an AA star key defender in the McGovern mould.

They other idea was trading for freos pick 10 with the future 1st

Fair enough. I feel like it would be a lot to give for a position that's not really a desperate need, but understand the reasoning if you value McAsey that highly. I'm not sure Freo would give up Pick 10 (obviously would be dependent on a Henry bid right?) but I think the plan would be to get another high pick before the bid for Maginness.

Yeah either way I see next years first for hawks being traded in some way. Not sure the swans deal gets done but think the freo one is more likely if blues have guaranteed a bid on Henry

The Freo deal makes sense for Hawthorn definitely. I don't know if it's ideal for Freo but it would be palatable. If Hawks ended up with Pick 10 and 11 plus matching on Finn, look out. Hawk supporters haven't seen that kind of draft haul in a long, long time. Haha.

I can't imagine we would be the least bit interested in Hawks 2020 first for 10 without significant additions our way. That pick is a good chance to be worse and is a year later.

It would be close to a fair trade, however we would want to do the opposite ... trade our future 1st for the current 1st from Hawthorn, or a couple of picks in the teens/20s.

You want to get 10 + 11 + Maginness. Makes sense. But we would want to get 7 + 10 + 11 + Henry. Not just 7 + Henry. I would think both clubs would have to look elsewhere.

The looking elsewhere has already happened haha

Loved the podcast. From a saints perspective for Bryan to slip that fair was a huge win, had him in the top 40. Also I’m leaving the thread as I’m going overseas till Christmas. Thanks for a good year.

Realistically the trade was to get Jackson initially expecting him to be there, and I think it would work well in that scenario, but realistically we were just taking a different look at some trades that haven't really been discussed, but more looking at 2020.

To be honest - and this is my fault in this regard - I just don't see as much AFL as I would like. There is a cost with being out all weekend watching Under 18s talent every weekend. Often I'm seeing Pies games on replays, and then other games when I can, but quite often it's highlights or quarters here and there that are worth watching in hindsight.

From my perspective, my knowledge when it comes to Phantom Draft is the prospects and where they will land, and research will get you so far in terms of looking at opposition clubs and who they might look at or how they might trade, but depth charts and supporter thoughts - which often aren't helpful because they are so different for every club! - aren't always the best. So from that front it's my bad when it comes to list analysis, it's why I try and stick to profiles and rankings, but it's just getting outside the comfort zone and unfortunately the live trading makes it all the more difficult.

Appreciate your work and the different perspective none the less! :)

I've seen what the tech team have been putting together all week and it's going to look pretty bloody amazing. If you're keen for some interaction on the draft nights and want to tune in to some quality banter and discussions, going to be a lot of fun.

When will you have a live feed on your YouTube channel of draft analysis, and tweet each pick before its announced live by the commish?

Right after world domination! But in all seriousness I’d say we will be investing in a YouTube channel in the future, as well as developing an app (again down the track) and the whole site will be redesigned in the next six months so there’s going to be a lot of changes over the coming months and years.
