Slipknot

Okay, I have a question for y'all.....

How do you view Slipknot in metal today?? Do you see that, past all the gimmicks and stuff, that they are what metal is today or...

Do you think they totally suck ass and that they are too commercial etc.

I have heard different opinions from metal obards around the net, so I thought I'd see what people thought of them here.

I personally think they are pretty good. Corey Taylor is great on vocals and Joey Jordison is one of the best drummers around today, plus their guitarist aren't too bad either....

What do you think?

Slipknot are in no way too commercial. Whereas Limp Bizkit get a lot of 13-17 yea rold girls loving their music (who also l ike backstreet boys, nelly etc) you wouldnt see them buying a slipknot cd/single.

So they wear masks...big deal. Mr Bungle wears masks as well yet noone questions their gimmick.

Slipknot would be by far the heaviest 'commerical' band there is. They arent nu metal and they arent death or speed metal. Its almost Power metal in a way.

Corey Taylor is a great vocalist...he runs himself ragged on stage and he hardly has a voice by the end of their set. Joey is a fantastic drummer....defeinatly one of the best in the world. The guitarists are good....the DJ and sampler are good too. The percussionists dont really do much, they only play in say 1 outta 3 songs but they go nuts on stage.

Usually metal bands go more commerical with thier second albums, to try and make more money, sell more records, get out into the public eye more....but Slipknot went the other way and produced an album that was double as heavy as the first. My only problem with Iowa is that some of the lyrics are just plain stupid, expecially some choruses like "noises noises people make noises, people make noises when their sick" and "if youre 555 then im 666, whats it like to be a heretic"

Slipknot are the most commercial heavy metal band in the world today, but they are in no way a commercialised, sell out band

The whole thing I think is sick. The whole thing I think is sick. The whole thing I think is sick...

Like Slipknot, and they are not nu-metal.

I own their self titled release, but not Iowa or their debut. Great album, helps with anger, and Corey has a brilliant voice.

I would imagine that a band which is called 'commercial' would have to appeal to 12-17 year old males? Doesn't mean they are 'sell-outs' just that I think a commercial band appeals to this demograohic.

I could not agree with you more mate.

When I said commercial, I only meant it that others may think that. I don't believe they are commercial in any way. I really like Corey Taylor though, he can not only scream the house down but then go melodic in a second, and his melodies are not to bad either. Some suck ass at it, but his are good. I put him up there with vocalists like Phil Anselmo.

And Iowa is a SWEEEEEEEEET album. There lyrics are not that bad, especially the chorus to "Heretic Anthem" with the 555 and 666 stuff, if you know what heretic means (I am sure you do) then you would see it's not stupid at all.

But anyway, Slipknot are great. They are, as many others put it, "Metal Metal" really. Hopefully they are around long enough for people to appreciate it.

I guess there is a better and easier way for them to get their point across, but oh well. It's still a good song, with Jordison double kicking himself through most of the song.
