Sloane didn't sound too confident in his interview on ch 7 after leaving the Wakefield hospital. My guess is the doctor has advised him not to play next Thursday. I got a feeling he will be out.

Yep. I agree. I dont think he will play. With what little he said he didnt sound optimistic. I think the shorter wait for the finals probably didnt help, a Saturday night game may have been enough for him to play.

Its a massive body blow before our biggest game of the season to date. The only very very small positive is that if we manage to roll the Giants, he gets two weeks more to rest and we have the pleasant headache of definitely changing a winning team with an elite player.

Do we really want to risk him though?
A lot of footy still to be played. Not just the GWS match. I reckon we can take them without him.
I think we'll struggle massively without Sloane in the middle. Even if he's just there to cop a tag

It certainly is a conundrum. If he is fit/50%fit he plays, but at what cost?

Or do you take the gamble that Sloane plays , we win and Sloane ( and the group) have a further 2 weeks rest.

I cant see him playing the more I think about it. I just think the personal risk is also a massive issue and I get the feeling the Club doctors will not clear him.

I think they may even recall Thommo to be honest.

This is a contradiction to the news report as below:
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport...t/news-story/01cc915574b09281b63cf4a1c6949bd3
Quoted:
"Sloane’s appendix was removed after he reported abdominal pain in the morning. If his appendix was not perforated, surgeons would have likely performed keyhole surgery, which cuts down recovery time by weeks. That is the surgery Betts underwent, before missing one game against Collingwood at the MCG. At the time, Betts described the pain as the worst he had ever experienced."

The news reported implied Betts had keyhole surgery, and that his appendix in fact had not bursted. Betts might have said the word "burst", but not necessarily used it in the actual sense. Maybe it was a near-burst?
Whatever the case, Sloane's expected recovery would be similar to that as Betts. Just Sloane's running capacity in a full game, is the unknown factor for next week.

Poor bugger, I heard it really took a bit out of him.

Anyone who has had surgery looks and sounds much worse on day 2 than on day 9. He's still in pain with some lingering anaesthetic in him. Touch and go but I'm betting he'll play

Spewing even more we are playing the early Thursday game now,.. could be 1-2 days in him playing or not playing I reckon. Will go down to the wire.

If he is 75% ready,. I'd play him,. if nothing else, just to attract the tag and free up the rest of our midfield. Usually I'm not a fan of playing people if they are underdone, but in this case it's not like he will re-injure his appendix,... it's gone, of course he could tear stitches,. but thats not the end of the world.

if he doesn't play, we risk GWS tagging another midfielder out of the game, maybe Brad crouch? (don't think Matt is all that taggable)

I'm tipping him to play.

I had mine out 2 years ago, the forest 2-3 days you feel really tender however once you get yourself active and moving it does accelerate your recovery and more so your mindset
