however, where we were behind the goals - 100m away - we could clearly see it was a throw. the ump who was about 20m away couldn't..

Maybe I was so furious at the time I hadn't realised how far up the ground it was. Really remember it forward of centre. Weird.

Wasn't the first contest on the wing?

It was on the wing with our forward line completely open, with less than a minute in the quarter. Instead of getting the chance to go forward and hit a streaming forward, the pass went to another Carlton player who spotted up Andrew Walker for a late shot at goal (which he shanked).

you could maybe argue that the ball was knocked free by Walker's tackle and then it was punched (ie not one handballing action).

Nah cause the ball went up with Walker nowhere near. Clearly launched upwards by the hand.
