Blicavs applied a legal shepherd. Sloane wrapped his legs around Blicavs legs and pulled him to the ground. Blicavs had to leave the field and has a suspected broken leg.

Tripping is a reportable offence. Should Sloane be facing weeks? Should the AFL be clamping down on this type of dangerous tackle?

No. I won't be as dismissive as others and say that I understand your rationale, but not the path you think it leads down.
No different to the Wingard incident, where the Melbourne players dives at his legs in an attempt to smother, but doesn't touch the ball, takes out Wingards legs and causes him to leave the field for the second half with an ankle injury that luckily doesn't look too serious.

Was it diving at the legs? Yes. You could say that it is worse than a player diving after a loose ball. Wingard had the ball and was not protected.
Was it a trip? Yes. Definitely. Accidental notwithstanding.
Should anything have been done about it? Maybe a free kick if you are literal about the rules. But play on is the right call in the "spirit of the game". Maybe if Wingard had torn an ACL or broken a leg, the AFL might introduced a rule interpretation as a knee jerk reaction (pun intended).
