Funny how many rated how well did as back up but got less hit outs than Jenkins was getting who all were saying not a back up ruck man.
Did better but those turnovers and so soft .
But huge boost if can be as good as posters hope

Surprised this has been brought up again. He played a couple games down back and was quite lost. He doesn't have the best mobility/movement to change and switch direction quickly. If remember correctly, many people on here stamped for him to never play as a CHB again. I think the Craigy and Co also scraped the idea. Best position is ruck/forward. Simple. I think Sellar had greater flexibility to go down there.

Freddy where have you been . Just a slight chance you might be right mate .
But dont start patting yourself yet.

I agree CC... There is a chance. I am not as confident as a year ago but with a few more games under his belt I think he could be on the verge of something special. Great to see Lynch have a break out game though

Come on Vader you had already written him off! So you are un-writing him off? Good to see :thumbsu:
I have always said that he had the talent to make it. I have questioned his mental strength (calling him "mentally weak") and I've also criticised his lack of aggression and will to impose himself on the game.

Whether or not he is able to make the most of his talent remains very much in question at this point in time.

Currently lacks the intensity and concentration to play as a defender; and we don't need him to play as a defender.

Play him as a CHF/Ruck; leave him there for the rest of this season, and see where he goes.

He can be very bad, but you can also see how good he can be; if we can nurture him, get his confidence up and let him settle into a role, then I think he'll come good.

Showed some signs yesterday, some good handballs and second efforts and his kicking was good. Need to give him a real block of games. Seems to have cut the stupid frees he was giving away, time will tell.

He looked good at times today and took some really good grabs.. but so many of his kicks (from the aforementioned marks) went directly to the opposition. Incredibly frustrating to watch.

this has been the game with smack since his drafting. an impressive leap here, excellent display of mobility and agility there, punctuated by too cute disposal and random lax efforts. too many frees. he is exactly the sort who goes to another club and finds synergy through a brand of message incidentally attuned to him, and we're all scratching our heads asking why he didn't play -that- football for us.

So am I. He has a tonne of potential. I thought he looked more agile than when he's played in the past too. Someone else commented that he looked trimmer too. He has a massive opportunity here so let's hope he plays some good footy!

The more he plays at AFL level the more confident he'll be. I just hope that even if he has a shit game next week they'll still keep him in. He's one of those guys you really need to persist with even through the bad times. Confidence is key for him when he feels good about himself he seems to play much much better.

I am a big McKernan supporter .....but realistically it's not about AFL gametime IMO

For me he's a late developer mentally .....and only time will fix that when he matures PLUS being part of a good winning culture. I expect him to be 24-25 YO before see what we all get glimpses of on a regular basis

If McKernan had been recruited by Melbourne ...he would definitely have been delisted by now

Has been tried at CHB regularly under the Craig regime ......and was satisfactory

That said .....he's a straight running player and at CHB IMO he would be turned around by forwards too easiliy .....has a wide turning arc

Part #1 of Vader considering he may have been wrong.

Rendell rates McKernan very highly & he gets it right most of the time.

We should have played McKernan from round 1 with JJ as 100% KPP player.

Just needs for AFC to show faith &nuture him. He can play, but he can do some stupid stuff too. Need to be patient & not write him off for all the bad things he does (eg. like Douglas bashers). Judge him after a good month of consecutive football.

He's still a kid, who has taken time to adjust. I think he'll come good with maturity and experience, regardless of where he is at.
