Atm Raines is our best option as a small defender. He is the most accountable player on that list.

Jacko will be given the opportunity to make the tagging role his own this year.

I want to see bling play in the midfield next year.

If King learns to be more accountable he is the best option. With his attack on the ball he would become the most feared defender in the league. Also tough as nails.

I would not mind seeing Polo played back there. As i think he and Jacko will be competing for the tagging role, Jacko has the edge having played out the last dozen games. I've always said Polo will turn into a decent player if he was given the chance. Maybe try him in defence for the NAB cup and see how he goes.

From what I've seen of Hislop he played well in the midfield, so leave him there.

No way to White. He is needed in the midfield and up forward with his speed and strength, he is almost impossiable to tackle. Played some great footy their last year, so leave him where he is.

i actually like white best as tagger, hes one of the only players on our list who can stay with anyone... our others especially deledio and foley are much better used in other roles ( out side midfielder and forward + inside midfielder).

but who knows hislop and thompson might have been recruited for that role.

i agree about king having the biggest up-sides, but i never think we will be able to develop his kicking nor his discipline enought to unlock the potential.

Its a shame too cause newman is better rebounding too

I think you'll find the backline is pretty much settled with McGuane, Moore, Thursfield, Newman and McMahon. This leaves one spot open for either a small defender or Schulz depending on match-ups.

Thursfield----Moore-----King/Raines
McMahon---McGuane----Newman

Pretty ordinary looking backline to me. Lack of size and skills and also defensive qualities in the medium-small players. The KPs are all similar which doesn't allow much room for flexibility. McMahon/King/Raines/McGuane have suspect kicking skills under pressure, while Newman/King/McMahon have suspect defensive qualities.

Personally I think we need to have at least 1 big bodied defender to play on the big bodied forwards and play Moore as a HBF, which allows for greater flexibility because he can be moved onto a KPF if needed. Either Rance or Schulz could be the big bodied option, although Schulz has not proven himself yet so give Rance a shot. I think White could be a good BP because he has pace, is decent overhead and would be a good outside runner if needed. His only problem is disposal of course. Push Newman and McMahon further up the ground to maximise their running games, whilst minimising their defensive responsibilites. Tambling needs to play on a HBF.

Rance---Thursfield---White
Moore---McGuane---Tambling

I am under no illusions that this backline will not be played, it's just one I think has a better mixture of height, defensive players and quick outside runners with skills.
