Mark Neeld can u please reinvent (or take him back to the way he first started) Aaron Davey, he can play that small forward role...just like a milne or ballantyne but only better...

davey has struggled the last couple of years and i think its time for us to change the strategy for him...:D:D:D

thoughts?

Maric must be given an extended run as a pure small forward.

All his injury and personal problems aside, I still don't think Wonaeamirri will ever come on as people think. He is an Aaron Davey type player stuck in a Byron Pickett body.

We have to many people that can play a snall forward role..

Should draft Clay Smith, will fit small forward role needed perfectly. His tackling pressure is great and he is super quick and agile.

Thanks for that advice Clay.

But seriously we need to draft a good one. I'm still thinking Bennell might be an option, he's more natural as a defender but he's a very small defender and Tapscott and Blease are better kicks. Jetta can play, but more in a half forward/midfield role. Lawrence looks promising but is a fair way off. I'd love to recruit a small forward or just as good would be a midfielder with the ability to play small forward as they develop. Someone like Dalhaus from the dogs would be perfect.

I like the idea of Davey. I think yze went up forward late in his career with some good success there plus I think grimes will be playing davey's rebounding role for the next year or two. Adds some class up there.

Also just after your opinions on how you see Sylvia being played in two years time? I think he will be permanently up front but not sure how far. If he is still in the middle I think jones may be squeezed out. Would be nice to put Syl in the pocket but give him a licence to cause havoc anywhere forward of the square.

think your right re Sylvia.. although think he'll play the Chapman half forward role because this really is his perfect role.. he's tough, a great mark nd a beautiful kick nd he gives us serious x factor at hf..

We have one, and he will be a gun.

the few VFL games i saw was really impressed. plus he is a good height 180cms? he is a natural small forward, great skills. Him and his family seem to have embraced the club too.

Is he ready to step it up AJ? The few games I saw he didn't do anything of note. Maybe he'll get a chance in the NAB cup?

Gee it's hard to know which threads to post on this board - too many going at once!

I think Davey as the small forward, allowing the young gun Lawrence the chance to have a crack in a year or two. Jetta has to be on the wing, he needs to be involved in the game or he goes missing. Sylvia is, in my opinion, more talented than Chapman and if he gains consistency could be far better in that role than Chappy..

We have quite a few options; Davey, Wonaeamirri, Bennell, Maric (if he remains).

Although I think we will see Jurrah become more of a goal sneak next season. Now with Clark taking the main defender, as well as having good marking options like Watts, Howe and Green to an extent, we probably have the luxury of allowing LJ to crumb the packs and use his great instincts around goal.

Interesting.

Our current forward line:
Sylvia Watts Petterd
Jurrah Clark Green
...with Howe on the interchange.

Davey is certainly a good option for the "small forward" role. He is lightning quick, fierce and ultimately very smart around goals.

Kelvin Lawrence is another one who I would like to see debut in 2012. Watching him play, he is a bit like Nahas. Can play at the feet of our talls but can also have a real impact lurking at the 50.

We need one that's for sure.

Wona, Davey and Bennel could all become different quantities under Neeld but I don't think we should miss the opportunity to get a specialist goal sneak if possible.

I see Howe playing down the ground a bit once he builds his tank due to his ability to mark and wheel around and bang it long but he's still in the forward equation.

The question is which medium leading types will miss out now we have Clark and potentially another small coming in?

Green (albeit a veteran), Petterd and Dunn (who could become a specialist sub) are handy to have on our list but will find it harder to make an impact from now on IMO unless we create an effective player rotation and management system.

Watts and Jurrah cover a couple of bases and will only get better. All of this doesn't leave Fitzpatrick on firm ground either.

It will be interesting to see if we adopt a midfield/forward rotation scheme like Collingwood did a few years back as well.

Possible forward line:

Howe - Watts - Petterd
Jurrah - Clark - Green

Petterd and Sylvia to alternate between midfield and half forward. Green and Davey to alternate between forward pocket and wing.

I hope the likes of Dunn and Bate don't have to come into the equation.

Green and Davey to alternate between forward pocket and wing.

Good concept, I like it... has the potential to work well in that it can keep both in the game but keep our forward line strong.

The thing about Lynden Dunn is that while he goes missing sometimes, he has the ability to kick a goal from 55m when we really need it. I wouldn't rule him out just yet...

Even if we didn't have any solid options before Maric and Wona were delisted we officially need one now I think even if we adopt a mid/forward rotation plan.

Who are our best options to manufacture this player type (including rookies) and how keen will we be to get a small forward option in the draft?
