Nigel was one of the guests on last night's Footy Show.

He spoke very well, made some wise cracks, and didn't make a fool of himself, which can happen on that show.

One thing I noticed, however, was his confidence about Adelaide. He made remarks about how they still believe they will make the top 4, and will definitely bounce back.

Another thing, which I found quite amusing, was how he bagged a few other clubs (such as Geelong) and how he spoke about them. eg: "Geelong do not have a good game plan". This was surprising given the Crows don't have a very good game plan either.

And top 4? I don't doubt our ability, but I bet some people might smirk at this. I think it's a long shot, but at least it shows we still have confidence, which can only be a good thing.

All in all, a very good guest was Smarty. What are your thoughts?

Oh, and you've got to love Sam's drug joke at the start. :p

And he sold Fevola on his comments too. Fev picked us.

Smart is always value for money and will say what he thinks. I wasn't impressed with the salary cap crack at Brisbane. He said something along the lines if AFL stop giving Brisbane extra $600K in the salary cap the Lions will be known as a team who won those tiels when they were given concessions. I didn't think that was on.

Liked his questioning of Hird about giving it to Scott McLaren when he was not there to defend himself.

Surprisingly, I thought last night's show was pretty good. They made a joke of everything but discussed some issues in detail.

Can't remember the last time I actually enjoyed TFS as I did last night.

I agree 100% Stiffy. I thought his comments there were not good and unfortunately Eddie loved it and encouraged him to say more. The issue is far broader than just saying Brisbane get an extra $600k and therefore have an unfair advantage.

I must admit his comments took me by surprise. Eddie on the other hand loved it and wanted to hear more. Apart from that I thought he was pretty good.

He had a bit of a crack at Angwin too.

Nigel is always like that. He is always very confident. We could be 0-5 and he'd be confident of making the finals.

The question is do the rest of the team share his confidence. It's one thing to say it but it's another to believe it.

By the way I think Smart would make a good AFL coach. Obviously I don't have a lot to base that on apart from his attitude, intellegence, confidence, communication skills and his lateral thinking. But these things are all relevant to coaching and I think he would be a successful coach.

No offence to assistant coaches......but Mr Nigel Smart will be heading for bigger and brighter things that simply an assistant coach of a football field......Look out Andrew Demetriou or even Steven Trigg. Nigel is one smart Nut and could become more important that a Coach

Assistant coach is just a starting point in the path to a head coaching position. It's not like anyone would walk straight into a CEO job either without sufficient grounding first.

I'm also not sure that the club CEO is more important than the head coach.

Of course Nigel will have to work his way up the corperate ladder but not every football player will become a coach

Must admit I no longer watch TFS, so I missed what happened. Have seen Smarty speak many times before & he is alway entertaining because he speaks his mind rather than boring rope-like answers most players & coaches usually come out with.

Nige has never lacked confidence, so I wouldn't get too carried away with his predictions about Adelaide's chance ... as he has been confident about winning the last few showdowns! :(

Why did he have to say "all right" or "ok" after everything he said??

Whilst Smart is obviously not dumb I wouldn't get too carried away with how smart he is. Its just that compared to the usual dumb f ucks on the footy show he comes across as an intellectual giant:)

I found that quite annoying and a bit arrogant. It's like he's checking to make sure we can keep up with his thinking. He's always done it though so it is probably just part of the way he speaks.

I agreed with Stiffy on this and from my point of view it was a bit harsh because Brisbane deserve to be remembered for being an awesome football side rather than a team which won flags because of salary cap concessions.

As I mentioned before there are many issues behind Brisbane getting the extra money, and if it was just a question of additional money why haven't Sydney won the flags as they get a higher amount than Brisbane?

I always enjoy the Footy Show and was most pleased to see Smarty on it last night because, as most agree, he's a very entertaining guest. However, he's also full of sh*t, I can't believe he kept a straight face when he said we still expect to make top 4 :p

But ahhhhh, as a Crows fan, you gotta love him.

And Stiffy, I don't think it'd be too hard to convince Fevola of anything...

When he said that I winced.

Smacked of the same old Adelaide Football Club mentality - all talk no action.

Just STFU and WIN SOME GAMES.

Nigel is always honest. He is a smart cookie (paron the pun) and therefore it is always interesting to hear him speak.

I actually enjoyed the show last night - the comment re Angwin "about to break into the side" was a classic!:D :D

I wish I taped it. I was actually okay with everything he said. About Brisbane, I think he was focusing more on his 'public perception in the future will hurt them' view than the straight-out retreading of 'fixing the concession' stuff. He is absolutely right - because of all the debate, people will remember the last three years as 'salary cap concession' conjecture and debate - people will no matter whether they support it or not remember that with those three flags, there were other issues.

A bit like if enough people go on about it for long enough, our back to back efforts will be classed as 'lucky/undeserving/stolen/whatever/ad bloody nauseum.'

He took Hird to task, which was the high point for me personally.

When the coaching staff reacting to the pre-season bashing the media gave us, it blew up in their face because we continued to serve up soft performances. Hopefully the side will come through this time.

Agreed.

Hird's comments were thoroughly out of order. I'm glad someone was there to tell him so.

I struggle to imagine any other high profile player other than Smart who would have done likewise.

Again, whether you agree with Hird's comments or not, Smart letting him know he was 'totally wrong' to do what he did on the most watched football show in the country was spot on - look what has happened. This backs up what he said about perception about the concessions.

Like I said, I wish I taped that.

Hird described the umpiring for the Essendon/St Kilda match as "disgraceful". He went on to single out Scott McLaren.

Smart scolded Hird for "airing your dirty laundry" in public.
