Does it really surprise ANYONE that Smart wants to run as a Liberal?

Extremely high wage, upper class lifestyle, wants all the best for himself after retirement.

I can't believe anyone on here actually thought that was wrong and he would never run as liberal...he is classic, toffie Liberal material.

Would not surprise me if he also ran as a Green.

& there is nothing wrong in wanting the best in life for yourself & family just the way one goes about it,
.

What ever Nigel does after footy i'm fairly sure he will make a success of it be it as Lib, Labor, Dem, Green or as the founder of the BAWLED party. :)

If the 'best in life for your family' involves screwing others and ruining their livelihoods, and having compassion for no one but yourself, then leave me out of it. I'll find another way.

Cos that's what the Libs are doing these days.

I like that the Crows have a strong presence on the Footy Show, it makes it half-watchable at times. I dont think any other non-Melbourne club has as much presence on the show.

I think it was good of Smart to show some confidence. When you start to believe you can't win and wont make it then you won't, no matter how hard you try. You need to believe.

I also think Smart was the only intelligent person on the show by giving it to Hird, he was 100% right that it was not the place to air the dirty laundry.

Not sure if you will beat Fremantle or make the top 4 but I liked how Smart handled himself on the show.

Brisbane's handouts were not just monetary, they were still receiving priority draft picks whilst winning premierships, so it is no wonder they still have enourmous depth and the ability to keep them at the club.

Brisbane deserve the cups they won but they were not playing under the same rules as everyone else and it is something that will always be associated with their success. The same questions marks over Carlton who breached their salary cap during their era of success. Whilst Brisbane did not cheat, it is hard to expect other teams to compete when they do not have the same opportunities.

If Brisbane was spanking the Crows in successive grand finals it would probably be more on your mind than it is at the moment. I think all clubs deserve to have an even playing field and an equal chance of success. It is far from it at the moment, and not jsut talking about Brisbane. Collingwood for all their complaining get a gimpy draw year after year.

I have no issues whatsoever with the salary cap bonuses for Brisbane and Sydney. Without an inbuilt AFL culture like the other three states, it is difficult to retain players locally, let alone try and convince interstate players to stay in those states, particularly Brisbane.

Not to mention the cost of living in Sydney...

Conclusion: stop bitching. It is fair. Bitching about it is just an excuse to try and justify your own team's crap performance.

Not saying you are, but those who thought Smart was just saying that stuff because Brissy beat us can't be right - obviously what he said and how he said it meant he hadn't just been showing sour grapes. Also, he put less emphasis on the out-and-out 'it's cheating' that the Victorians do, instead he said it was a bit of a shame that because of all the debate around right now, their fantastic triple effort may be sullied by history's eyes.

Agreed.

Q: What do Jason Akermanis, Michael Voss, Alistair Lynch, Nigel Lappin, Clark Keating, Craig McRae, Marcus Ashcroft, Shaun Hart, Darryl White, Justin Leppitsch, Simon Black, Chris Johnson, Daniel Bradshaw, Beau McDonald, Luke Power and the Scott twins have in common?

A: They were all on Brisbane's list when they took the wooden spoon in 1998.

Where was all the bleating about their salary cap advanatge and "the AFL handing it all to them" then?
