AFL Autopsy Smashed by port

As harsh as it is to say. That’s okay. It’s actually the point to not have players who don’t understand fundamental zone defence.

If they get disillusioned to the point of leaving that’s okay. That’s the point.

They have every training session and 21 more games to practice playing Zone defence and the goal is to be better at it in week 24 then they are now.

like Scott said they were playing selfish and pressure was non existent. There’s 20 people in the VFl and countless more in state leagues who’d love the chance to play AFL football. If today’s best 23 can’t manage to play as a team then others who can will be found

Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water

Maintaining cultural knowledge is important when the culture is successful.

When it isn’t. When a transformation/revolution is required feelings are going to be hurt.

For better or worse it’s sink or swim and if you sink your done

Well the next logical thing is to have a thread on who we will beat next! I don’t believe we will go 0-10 my money is on Melbourne only because they are so pathetic but if we can’t beat them I don’t know? Do peeps think we will beat North? Seriously if we beat them that’s an embarrassment towards them

Maybe Richmond

Can’t see us beating anyone else if we keep playing like this

They are Rnd 11 I think. Don’t get me wrong we will probably win a game but hell no we will be favourites

It’s annoying that our most winnable games are early because hopefully we will be far better as the season ends.

Can’t be much worse in terms of effort/application than we were today.

Kako, Caddy, Jonhson, and Roberts all good. Nguyen good in patches. HEA was not in the action much, but when he was stuff happened. Blakiston also did some nice things. It's the old brigade that was dogshit.

Flogging a dead horse I know but if we ask for a priority pick the AFL will just say "you turned down three first rounders because you were absolutely certain you were flag bound".

Welsh is the one that needs to be sacked. One of the dumbest decisions in sporting history.

And the worst part is that people defend it!!! "Oh it wasn't 12 consecutive number one picks so it wasn't good enough to justify getting rid of a 30 year old player who no longer gives a stuff."

That's based on what? You're just making shit up there.

No, we turned sown a shit offer. It was pick 13, 23 and probably 23 again for a bona fide star of the game. Saying 3 firsts is disingenuous at best.

I think we should have taken it as well. But to be clear, we would have been trading Merrett without a single top 10 pick coming back. It was far from a godfather offer.

Hinkley nailed all our problems on commentary I thought. Tells you what those in the industry really think of the club.
We’re seen as an anachronism, an irrelevance, a historical curiosity and a laughing stock, and right now we have no way to refute a single one of those.

This might be a wake up call to Scott to say, well it doesn’t matter when we play Langford or parish over younger guys when we are gonna get flogged regardless.

Langford has to go back. I don’t see any other way.
The Langford call to go back makes a ton of sense with Redman out and presumably Ridley will need a few weeks. Plus we have guys like May or McMahon that could replace Langford adequately well.

Did you rant like this when we turned down the offer? You are ranting with post-loss emotion. The offer was shit and really wouldn’t have helped our rebuild. We did well to get pick 13 anyway. We’d be handing Hawthorn the last piece of their premiership puzzle too. That trade wasn’t getting us out of the shit. We got the perfect draft haul as far as I could see. The kids we got in all look very likely types. There’s so many other things we need to get right. Keeping Merrett has a lot more merit than you think.

He's 30 and there's a zero chance he'll be with us for our next flag - and around a 5% chance of our next finals match. We also should have jettisoned Ridley. Others have suggested pay his salary and have Brisbane pay Draper B1 comp money. We could have had 6 picks in the top 20. Still a lottery but what on Earth is the benefit of keeping him? So we don't get flogged? Working out well.

Merret is also gonna be worth less at the end of the year when he requests a trade again BTW
If a club offers a top ten pick we still get a better trade than what Hawthorn offered. He’s still contracted and we can get a very good future player for him. All the better if it’s not given to Hawthorn who gave us an offer with the trade period practically over. We didn’t need 3 extra picks.

Ridley, yes.
Merrett, our captain, only elite player, and reigning BnF is worth more than 3 pissy picks that don’t give us a look at the pointy end of the draft.

Merrett is elite in our team but a fair way off the best in the comp. Looked disinterested at times and won't push through walls for us this year.

Should have never offered him a new contract this early.

You got new kids playing with seniors and they are already under pressure trying to predict each others moves on the field. It’s probably daunting enough playing in front of large crowds trying to find and cement their own place in the side and then all you have are seniors just offering no on field mentoring. Do they have each others back? They all seem to play for themselves.

The newbies wont learn anything from a group of players who have been coddled for most of or all of their careers. They just don’t expect to be held accountable for poor output. Sure Scott will bake them but it’s all in vain.
