There is no doubt that his desire to defend in the forward line is having a significant impact.
There's a few doing it well at the moment.

his forward defending is not bad for an average to slow paced fella :thumbsu:

:) I know...was referring to the bloke who doesn't believe he has any ;)

I had an inkling you were being sarcastic although since I have a huge amount of respect for the both of you, I'll remain on the fence.:thumbsu:

In his last 3 or so matches, his development has been two-fold and with his confidence improving with every game, he's developing faster than what I expected. A big pre-season in the gym and he'll become a player the opposition will generally worry about in 2013.

I really need to temper my excitement levels regarding Smedts, but boy every game he plays it rises another level.

since I have a huge amount of respect for the both of you,

I'd be weary of respecting any person on the internet given the anonymity of this reality :p
will say though...I have respect for the majority in here but those who believe they have the right to tell you what to say, where to say it and look to belittle you at every opportunity, that respect can get thrown right out the window as I have done so with a select few already :)

(and I don't hide away from admitting I will belittle the same people who do so to me at every opportunity I can get)

top thread by the way :thumbsu:

Smedts is a ripping beauty!
He's got something very different about him I can't quite liken another player to him just yet.
Also looks to be a very laid back individual/country boy.

His marking is slowly starting to develop as he's timing his jumps and starting to feel as though he belongs at the highest level.
Imagine when he adds another 10kg's after 3 years in the gym, at 6ft'3 and with his ability to switch directions on a dime and lose a tackle...future has limitless potential.

Not getting into this again with you Bobby except to say that you really need to get rid of this persecution complex that everybody is trying to belittle you. We discuss opinions, agree/disagree with them and try to keep the forum running smoothly and keep threads on track. Just because I might disagree with you on a lot of things doesnt mean it's a personal attack - its not. Its just an internet forum about opinion for gods sake, dont take things to heart so much and dont worry about which posters may or may not like you. :thumbsu:

hey buddy, read my post again and you will see I mentioned a 'select few', never said everybody and I don't give a flying shit if you disagree with me or not I don't care for that...what I do get pissed at is the way you pop up out of the blue and quote me sporadically and then your mates like Shaneo or vinum etc seem to also pop up just after it and I gotta contend with 4 of you idiots.

Anyhow...I been carded too many times recently so will just do what you do and quote your posts from time to time ;)

No hard feelings, just copying the way you and your little band of flogs like to function on here :thumbsu:

Of course i quote your posts, isnt that what is done when you are debating a topic? I dont have any "mates" as you call them, i dont even know anybody on here. I am here to discuss football and nothing else. Oh, and while we are at it, if you have another meltdown and start abusing me and calling me the sort of things you did last week, I will take it further. Now can we discuss football?

Yeah it seems like we are taking a step back in time to 07 and 08 where our defensive forward pressure was magnificent - so much so that one coach had to come up with cheat-like tactics to win a certain match.....

When we were belting the Crows last week the forward half press was that good that the crows struggled to get it out of their back half.

Smedts has been one of the key ingredients in this, he seems to love the contest & I think he really is a better prospect as a defensive forward than a backman - he looks genuinely dangerous.

Remember in 07 that it was Varcoe providing the defensive pressure? And then he ran out of steam in the last 1/3 of the season.
Our kids have played a lot of games this year. I hope they can keep it together for the next 8 weeks or so.
Or we'll get busted open.

He reminds me very much of Daisey T.
Reckon he'll fillout like Thomas as well, he's a big boy now Daisey.

Perfect foil for no Menzel.

Maybe we should nick name him Viagra.

Have been keeping an eye on Billy as he is in my dream team and super coach teams. He has really come in the later half of the season. The cats are certainly building the next generation to take over from the older ones as they retire!

Yeah too true.
The issue this season has been our poor start, if we were a few more games up we could afford to rest players to have them fresh for finals.
Having said that, Smedts was in and out of the team the first half of the season.

Hey Bobby it says on the GFC website Smedts is 189 cm. I think 193/4 cm is 6'3" ??? Has Smedts grown since this stat ?
