Smith exits via Free Agency

Not a chance actually. Geelong are one of a few clubs I'd never ever want to play for.

Just the same as (an older discussion point), I'd never take the Buddy deal. I value loyalty over $$$$$$$$.
If the alternative was death as you put it, yeah you'd take the shitty job

Nope you're putting words in my mouth. I'm not afraid to stand up for what I believe in :)

Absolutely no one on this earth is turning down the security of that Franklin contract.

I can honestly say that I would. Money doesn't equal happiness. I'd rather be loyal to one club and not pimp myself out.

You said you'd jump out of a plane without a parachute before taking a job at Geelong I call bullshit

I think if actually given that choice you'd pull on the hoops like everyone else would.

Of course we would, but that's only because we've seen many many times that diving to the ground wearing nothing but a Geelong jumper can only lead to good things. Usually an undeserved free kick in a close game. Probably an even safer bet than putting on the parachute.

You don’t think it’s Scotts fault?

Go have a read on the Handbagger board and the C.Scott coaching thread mark 5 and see what they say about it.

I am convinced he is trolling them from within.

I don’t have a problem with you being a Handbagger or a Tigger fan just give the doom and gloom about us a rest,it’s become predictable and boring.

I am not the only one who thinks this way about you

We all know where we sit ATM.
Totally agree

Yes. No one said you have to play well in them.

‘the statement has an assumpti.on you are good enough to play elite AFL. If you are, and only geelong offer you to play, I’d think you take that and not need the threat of a horrible death to persuade you

No issues with Smith leaving, it is what it is.
His best is behind him imo (just) and if he thinks he can snag another flag with the cats, good luck to him.
The days of players being loyal to the one club are largely a relic of the past. That's just the reality of the free agency world (and ruthless list management) that we live in.
I wish ex Hawthorn player Smith well.

No, when your ingrained in Hawthorns history and culture you don’t play for Geelong unless you have no alternative. You wouldn’t see Selwood Enright Corey Stevie j Chapman or any others even contemplate coming to hawthorn. That’s why we are angry there’s 15 clubs he could of gone to and I wouldn’t of said a bad word anyone but Geelong or Sydney.
What rubbish.
Its his career, not Bigfooty.

Agree with you, but his a Geelong Handbagger now, not a Hawthorn player, so I won’t be wishing him any luck

I did a quick count this afternoon, and I listed 40 Hawthorn premiership players since 1971 who ended their playing careers at other VFL/AFL clubs. And that doesn't include Moncrieff who went to St.Kilda but didn't play a league game. That's more than I expected to find.

I know players move around a lot these days, but more than half of these were from the 1980s and before.

Careful wouldn't want facts getting in the way of a long winded rant... ;)

Yeah, I wasn't trying to make any sort of point. It's just that I posted earlier that I was tired of seeing Hawks premiership stars ending their careers at other clubs. I then began to make a list out of curiosity and was staggered by the number I found. I just thought it would be interesting. :)

Is Jarman the only Hawk premiership player to move and play in another premiership?

I like the way some Cat lovers here point to the 'no finals wins since 2015' as the metric, compared to Geelong, whose extremeties they are just frantic to chew.

I'm sure if I mention two 'top 4' finishes in that time, they would probably say 'top 4 finishes mean nothing'

And I might agree with them. The only thing that matters is flags.

Yet, somehow, the Cats complete lack of flags in 10 years doesn't stop them stroking the Cats' privates...loudly and repetitively. "Look at their H+A record!!! They are our overlords! Waaaah!"

Give it a rest..

There was one interesting player named Malcolm Hill who was a ruckman in the 1961 premiership team. He came over and played a couple of seasons for Sturt in the SANFL, then bought the Berri Hotel in the Riverland. Jack Oatey used to bring him to Adelaide as a finals specialist and he played in their 1966, 1968 and 1969 premiership teams. He played in three premierships in the space of only 4 matches.
