Smokin' Joe back at Windy Hill
Tuesday, 27 February 2007

There is a familiar face around the corridors of Windy Hill, as Joe Misiti returns to the club as a part time development coach.
The two-time premiership player and 236-game Essendon champion will work alongside Matthew Knights and Gary O’Donnell every Tuesday morning with a select midfield group of first, second or third year players.

Misiti’s role will include working through vision from the previous weekend’s match with a player to find both individual and team improvements and also on ground work to teach the group some tricks of the trade he made famous during his time at the club.

"Joe will be a great addition to the club as he played the majority of his career as a centre man. Having him around will be very advantageous in trying to educate and develop our young players," Knights explained.

"He is also a fine handball exponent and that is one area we want to get better in this year.

"He was also extremely diligent and his work ethic and his knowledge of the game is sure to teach our young players some valuable lessons."

Im a Geelong supporter, we could have used him in the late 90's. Anyway, I've been a fan of Joey for a long time, (ever since the baby bomber days)

Does anyone know if he's considered senior coaching in the near future?

Yer,I sent him a text on the weekend and pleaded with him to go down to Windy Hill and sort out some problems in the MF.;)

Good stuff Joey, but try to limit your favorite night clubbing stories when talking to the young blokes:thumbsu:

Great news. Even when he slowed down he could still find the ball around stoppages better than any Essendon player I have seen. Very smart.

Cool customer too. Remember reading that he used to give kids high fives on his way out onto the field to play a game.

Afew years back,Dons came over to play WC and lost that sat night. Went to an EFC kids clinic the next day and out of all the players who piled out of the bus,Joey was the best of them all. Walked straight out of the bus and into the crowds of kids doing handpasses and got right into it,cracking jokes and asking kids questions. Blokes like Bullen,Kepler,Welsh and NLM wandered around like drones without saying a word. All the kids kept laughing when he called the footys "nuts". Great bloke.

The club has pulled the right rein there.
Obviously would be a great bloke around the club & lets hope he can impart some of his knowledge to the young fellas so that we can have some poise with the footy & cough it up less.

Hopefully he can have a good impact on our young midfield group, watson could benefit from his advice more than others.
