Smoking lawsuit awarded!!!

That gave me quite a laugh, although it really shouldn't as it shows how screwed up the legal system is
I can't remember the exact details, but I remember hearing of a case, where a burglar was actually about to break into somebody's home. When he snuck into the house, he tripped in the kitchen, and fell on a knife which was on a table. He ended up sueing the person who owned the house, and he ended up getting a truckload of money :o :o :( Pathetic.

Listening to the radio this morning, Ross Stevenson was suggesting that the tobacco company has to take some responsibility-there were no warning signs on the packets, they knew it was potentially dangerous etc etc.

However, why did this woman lodge this suit? If it was so that tobacco companies make consumers aware of the dangers of their product-well I've got news for you. Since 1971, all Australian cigarettes have had a health warning printed on the packet. To me it is just a money grab. She could have given up smoking once the dangers were known to her: several of my family members have given up cold turkey once it became apparent smoking was bad for their health. Furthermore she took up smoking at the age of 12 (which meant she was illegally using the product).

I don't want to defend tobacco companies (I think smoking is a stupid, dirty habit) but people eventually have to take some responsibility for their own actions.
