Health Smoking?

Have had a couple drunk. And used to do it at parties when I was young cause it was "cool" (I was 15 or so)

But never smoked outside of them.

My mom and sisters both smoke though so have been around it enough to where it doesn't bother me, except the smell. Come home from visiting my mom and my clothes smell awful

Exhaust fumes from all those cars on the road are much worse for you than someone smoking in your general vicinity.

In Beijing maybe. I'll take the air in Perth over someone smoking a durry right next to me any day.

Smoking by design a selfish habit. It places a burden on the health system, creates litter and is unpleasant for those subjected to passive smoke. Even smokers who smoke away from other people still stink. If my hobby was to bathe in petrol every half an hour or so you'd get pretty sick of the smell of petrol from sitting next to me in an office quick smart.

I don't smoke and I am a better person than those that do.

If you don't:
- smoke around others just assuming they won't mind
- disappear from your place of work every hour at least for a few minutes
- drop cigarette butts on the ground
- cost the health system a cent when you get emphysema

then as far as smokers go you're alright. But I'm still better. Peace.

NB: I've never met a single smoker who doesn't do at least one of the above.

It now rightly has a loser stigma in the Western world and the companies are fighting hard to not let that happen in Asia and Africa.

It's seriously 100% just to be cool and both 'fit in' and 'stand out' when you're a teenager, that's why they start or give it a go.

I know. Friends of ours smoke and have a 20 year old son who was dead set against them smoking and always hated it.

Caught him with a smoke the other day. Just shook my head.

I'm a social, far more social now but still have one or two alone if I'm out by myself.
then again, a lot of my friends are smokers so they don't care and my non smoking ones don't kick up a fuss and frankly I don't give a shit about the average person on the street.

I always stand away from people and kids.

I don't think 'pot is OK' is the right message to send out, but by the same token as a society we've gone OTT the other way.

Smoking just seems like a waste of time to me. The only thing it has going for it is that it looks 'cool' and it's a social/routine thing to do. That's it. Yeah if you drink a dozen beers or a bottle of scotch every day you'll probably get liver cancer and die, but at least you'll be in a booze induced euphoria half the time. Smoke like a chimney and you just end up sounding like Darth Vader. Without the James Earl Jones voice. Pass.

Not a smoker but it also doesn't bother me. The general attitude towards smokers is pretty disgusting.

Yeah. Especially when I'm at work. campaigners acting all saintly because they don't light one up, and then they're there buying a slab every two days etc...

I notice that it's ones trying to be cool and smoke, but the ones that are 'cool' nowadays are ones who don't. But that's just around my area maybe. Other drugs are the 'cool' things now.
