I smoked for about 10 years, at the end it was a packet a day. I quit cold turkey the day my best friend told me she was pregnant... a bit sad that I clearly valued her baby's life over my own but that's what it took in the end. I've been off the ciggies for about 3.5 years now and haven't had even a drag.
Thankfully I quit when I did because my boyfriend told me that smoking is a deal breaker and it's highly likely that we wouldn't have started dating if I had been a smoker when we met.

How bad were the withdrawal symptoms going cold turkey?

My mother also quit cold turkey but she was a six or seven a day smoker rather than twenty like you, and she was really sick so that made it easier I suppose.

As for the deal breaker...I've never dated a smoker but in my younger, looser, single days I've certainly kissed and even slept with a couple of them. As a non-smoker, let's just say the odour and taste was very apparent.

One thing- as glad as I am that smoking in clubs, pubs and bars is banned, it certainly does mean you're now much more aware of people with bad body odour in bars. Clubs especially.

One of the hardest things I've ever done to be honest. I put on stacks of weight. The third week was the hardest, and then whenever I went out trying not to smoke while I had a drink was rough. I still think about cigarettes all the time.

I imagine the social aspect of it is one of the harder things to let go of. You become conditioned to doing it while drinking and socialising.

It was a little bit easier for me because I was the last smoker left in my group of friends, really. Some acquaintances still smoked but the people that I hang out with most regularly had either already quit or were never smokers in the first place.

I do work in hospitality though so that made it hard.

I guess I'm lucky in that no one in my family has smoked in my lifetime (mother quit eight years before I was born), and none of my close friends or partners have either.

There's never really been much temptation.

That's where you always fall down

That's the next step.

Have always had a heavy bag hanging in the backyard. It's copping a hiding.

That's your wife, have some ****ing respect.

Have smoked since I was a teenager. Aware that is is a disgusting habit, probably killing me and unpleasant for non smokers etc.

I'm always very aware not to smoke in congested areas and never around children.

Want to be smoke free by 30, currently trying to change my lifestyle in other ways, smoking will be the next thing to go.

I said that when I was your age too :$

I have never smoked a cigarette....

However... I smoke marijuana so it depends how you word the question..

my motto goes like this:

"If it's green, I am keen
If it's brown, I'll turn it down"

anyone know smokers that hate smoking? i am one.

Anyone know a smoker trying to quit that lives with a smoker or smokers and keeps on failing. i am one.

the slightest smell can make a person quitting light up.

The problem for smokers trying to quit is definitely other smokers. especially other smokers who don't respect if you're trying to quit.

Smoking is one of my biggest regrets. i always thought i'd be able to quit easy. nope. its not easy, it's the hardest thing to do and it beats me every time. have tried all avenues. the closest was with champix (three times). but no.

prevention is the best medicine.

e-cigarettes my friend.

if you're disciplined, you could easily wean yourself off a nicotine addiction. if you're undisciplined (like me), you merely change your nicotine delivery device. except now you use everywhere. all the time. coz you can get away with it. and coz honey tastes way ****en better than smoke.
