good open and very balanced post for a change from both sides of the fence.
i have been smoking for nearly 20yrs now and believe me if there was one thing i could change from the past it would be smoking.
granted is a bad habit with obvious health problems attached to smoking.
i respect non smokers and i do not smoke in a non smoking house and is very mindful about the health of others.

cheers!

Because initially, we like it. It gives us a buzz. Then before we know it, we're addicted and it becomes more a ritual than a pleasure that we choose of our own free will.

That's exactly how I see it too. As I've stated in another thread, I am very considerate of non-smokers, I won't smoke indoors at all, or in crowded places where people can't possibly escape the smoke.

However the example Daics gave just really bugs me. No one has ever asked me to move or put it out or anything, but sometimes you DO get non-smokers come right up next to you and cough and shoot dirty looks at you. Especially when I will go out of my way to stay away from anyone who's not smoking.

Exactly my thoughts.

Just a question. Why do you start, and why do you continue smoking? It is killing you. Slowly and painfully. Cigarrettes DOMINATE the person. The person doesn't choose the cigarrette. The cigarrette chooses them.

I mean, at least marijuarna gets you high. Smoking just does nothing but kill you. It's just something I've always wondered. It is so illogical, and doesn't make one iota of sense.

The Hitman

That's the whole problem with smoking, the side effects are way too slow. I'd rather see smokers die say five years after their first cigarette, rather than this crap of each one reducing life expectancy by x number of minutes. Yes, I'm a MAS (militant anti-smoker).
