Draft Watcher SMYTHE - 2022 DRAFT THREAD

Haven't watched him in person and only off highlights but he looks incredibly unfit. Assuming that is the case which combine testing will somewhat prove could that be area of his game that his holding him back more so then the mental of side of going each and every time?
Possibly, I’m not so sure it’s unfit, hesitancy, concentration, but yes the combine will sort it out, also a full time professional club environment will sort it out too. He definitely is not as fit as he could or should be but has the athletic and agile traits that may hide it. If fit and mental side is right he could be anything,

In your most recent draft you have Essendons 2nd pick at 27 and taking Davey. Our 2nd pick is 22, moving back a spot or 2 for f/s etc. Hoping we get a 2nd pick in before having to match, which in this situation would be the case.
Great work though!!

No Jerome Lawrence in your forward rankings, mate?
I have a longer fwd list, which he is on, however towards the end of this top 15 fwds, maybe the last 5/7 will struggle to get get drafted in my mind, so I did not see the need for the fwds list to go further than 15. I don’t really rate many fwds this year as you can tell by their position in my mixed rankings And being an overager that did not impress me this year did not help his cause….imo.

Hope the other clubs feel this way so we can rookie him. 🥳

Hey Smythe if the Tiges manage to hang onto 19 or 30 somehow after acquiring Hopper & Taranto is there a key forward who may be available for what would be our 1st pick?

Keeler will possibly still there at 19 maybe…..after that Lemmey.
Beyond that no one really worth a national draft pick.
IMO, only rookie chances at best would be left as Cadman, Jefferson, Keeler and Lemmey (in that order) would be the only ones worth it and there is a big drop off from Cadman to the others.
Keeler is very athletic and can be used in the ruck and further up ground, Jefferson is more your lead out fwd with good hands and a straight kick.
Lemmey was projected high after last year but has had issues this year to deal with and also personal issues that have hampered him, however, he still has the skills and could be a great get for anyone who drafts him if he gets his game back and improves, i said before that he was projected high, everyone had him locked into their top 5 and some even had him at 1 last year and if they say they didn’t they are lying.

Kobe Ryan at 63, reason???

Kobe Ryan at 63, reason???
For me he is a hard one to explain, there are little things here and there that he does that I don't like. To keep it simple, I did not have him as high as others last year because I did not like the way he played, he has runs on the board, yes, but for me has not got any better. So I don't rate him as having a higher ceiling than many that I rate above him. It's just one of those things, its not a knock on him personally, but for me his game is vanilla. His game never looks damaging to the opponents in anyway. Do I hope he proves me wrong, for his sake yes.

Whats your thoughts on Paul Pascu & Jaiden Magor, please

Whats your thoughts on Paul Pascu & Jaiden Magor, please
In short,
Magor is a clearence winning, bigger bodied mid, spreading/damaging and goes fwd to kick goals with a big upside in a full time environment and the right environment for his growth.
Pascu, old school, socks pulled up, footballer, not the best kick and some poor decision making at times, clean hands and can win a one on one with leaderships skills and is vocal out on the ground, but ceiling does not seem that high IMO.

Clean below knees, can apply pressure but very patchy, footy Iq lacks a bit with his decision making. There are times where he is team orientated when he should be selfish and other times where he is selfish when he should be team orientated. There is still a huge gap between his best and worst, and his consistency as I said is patchy. Has traits that can be furthered for the next level but I see him as rookie at very best imo in this years draft class especially (to the best of my knowledge and memory) given no invite to national or state combine.

I must admit I really surprised you don't see Tom Scully worth a national pick as a forward. He is really young for his year, 204cm, has heaps of development and can play even at ground level. No star but has more potential than lots in this draft pool.

I see him and rate him as a 4-5 perhaps 6 year growth prospect. I do rate him and watched him live. Growing pains and niggles have bothered him but his build is my issue.
He is one i see that, clubs who do rate him, will posibly wait till he is afl ready before trading for him in a few years time.
I can honestly say that i cannot see him playing at AFL level for at least 2 years so he can build his body. Someone, however, aside from my thoughts, will try to lock him away with a ND pick and i do see him being picked as there is definite interest (especially with a combine invite) but not someone 'I' would draft.
He is someone i would keep an eye on during his first few years of a full time professional environment and monitor his progress ie. Game improvement, body growth, 1 on 1 improvement, attacking growth and tackling growth and if all goes well and I then wanted him, try to poach him.
Hope that clears it up.
