I watched the first half of Doveton v South Yarra & second half of Lyndale v South Mornington yesterday.

Doveton v South Yarra
Real scrappy affair with neither side having any noticeable plan or structure - just whack it on the boot & hope for the best whilst very little to no movement from defenders in terms of zones & structures.

Whilst Doveton have improved, South Yarra were incredibly disappointing. With no reserves side & clear lack of numbers and depth, it showed. There were blokes that played that wouldn’t get a gig anywhere else. Massive concern & here’s hoping the find the players they need to put two sides up for the rest of the year.
Doveton were okay without being outstanding. Without physically seeing Dandenong/Moorabbin/Hampton, I think these two will be the bottom two all year - the quality of football was that bad in dry conditions in the first half.
The blow out did surprise me a bit though so credit to them for putting the foot down in the second half. I didn’t see that happening when I left at HT.

Lyndale v South Mornington
For the amount of talk Lyndale got about their recruits, they were the biggest disappointment of the day. 60 points down when I arrived - only kicking 1.2 to HT. I was intrigued to see if South Mornington were as good as it appeared or Lyndale just not delivering.

Whilst Souths were sharp around the ground, they only had three absolute standouts on the day. A forward, wingman and midfielder which got the game moving for them. Definitely didn’t look any more impressive than the South Mornington of 2022 though! To my knowledge they were missing a handful of their top tier players - which will only add to their group.
Keeping in mind I saw the worst of the conditions for the day however I’ll be very surprised if Lyndale win more games than they lose…they’ll need a big turn around from here if they do!

Interested to watch the vision of Moorabbin v Hampton when it goes up. Sportscast only have the Doveton/Yarra game up this morning. They used to go up every Saturday night last year.

Looking forward to next week!
Quite a comprehensive wrap up there! Seems like it’s going to be very one sided this season…

Thanks for your insight. It will take a squad of 30 blokes of reasonable quality to run through the seniors to win a flag so if South were minus a few that will be the same for all teams during the season. That said, appears a fair gap between them and the Pumas. The closeness of the Kangas and Hammers maybe sets both teams up as legit contenders. Hammers surely now with a Magoos have to be a better team and coming out of B Grade, with a likely return of a few, would fancy their chances. And the Redlegs have so far kept their powder dry- Round 2 will give a bit more clarity. A long season ahead……

I watched doveton v sth yarra unfortunately my sth Yarra are in a world of pain. They had about half a dozen blokes who are thirds players at best stepping up playing seniors. They have a few injuries but had only 8 or 10 players for the reserves. Doveton moved the ball a bit better but had a heap of overweight unfit blokes. Hopefully sth Yarra can turn things around quickly otherwise there will be a bye in div 4 shortly.

A little rich coming from somebody affiliated with Dandenong I would’ve thought lol

Hitting blokes miles late and throwing punches??? I watched from 23 minutes as suggested and was just a bloke carrying on like an idiot after the siren! What do you REAKON?

Dandenong should handle a hopefully improved sth yarra

Sth morn by triple figures over doveton

Lyndale would want to turn around a rd 1 thumping with the off season hype against possibly an undermanned Moorabin if a couple have been suspended… kangas in a tight one

Something has to be done with South Yarra, either fold the club or just go to the thirds for a year. A senior football team losing by 40 goals is ridiculous. What

What a shit comment hoping a club folds. There is no doubt they are stuggling for numbers and quality but they managed 2 sides yesterday. It was not long ago Dandenong was struggling they will be lucky to lose a game in both grades thus year so maybe hold your judgement! By the way what club do you support have sth yarra have won 3 flags in the last 20 years including one 3 years ago??

Don’t support any side in this lemon league! just have a few friends at various clubs.
Btw I’m not saying fold the club, clearly that’s s**t for local footy, but honestly after their efforts in attracting players last year, what’s changed? How do you lose all your players 3 years after a premiership?
Im a past player and life member so not there all the time! there premiership team had a lot of older players and retired on a good note! This level is the level the players play its div 4 but all.players go out there and try thete best!
I have a lot of mates in different leagues so who do support or play for??
