I’ve been away in the country but a mate told me this morning that Snoz Zempilas said this morning that he thought Darren Glass May be coming to Freo as an assistant coach. Has anyone else heard this rumour?
I think all of our coaching positions are filled so could it be for next year or if RTB gets the flick, a possible replacement?
 
What has he been doing?

It is a good idea to have a contender for the Senior Coach position in the fold. I'm not so sure about a baton pass though.

"May be coming" reeks of low level journalism, so wouldn't give it any credibility. The club rarely leaks.

All our coaching positions filled is a little relative.

At one point we had Mark Stone in a specialist stoppage coach role, Kirky as midfield coach / working one-on-one with Fyfey and Neale for example. Simon Eastaugh was our ruck coach for a while, and now he's our midfield coach with Rock (and we don't have specialist ruck or stoppage coaches).

The coaching positions are whatever the club thinks it needs to run effectively.

I welcome new experienced assistant coaches, I think it's something the club sorely needs

I think Sandi is our defacto ruck coach.

Poaching coaches/players from successful teams to act as assistants is pretty standard.
 
I think he'd be a decent addition. I mean, after all, he did get ALL those AAs ahead of Luke Mac through their careers cos he was so much the better player, so if he can coach as well as he played, then why not?
 
I know poaching occurs or alternatively there may extenuating family circumstances but it seems a bit late into the pre-season for this to occur. Glass has spent 6-8 weeks pre Christmas and now into the January phase of training.

He does seem to be well regarded by Hawthorn but only into his second year as a Hawks assistant. Sam Mitchell comes to mind but even then he left straight after their completed season. End of the upcoming season may be more likely.
 
Was the smartest of his era according to a couple of exWC players I spoke with recently (unrelated conversation). Worked for BCG which is a hard gig to get and they only take the best and brightest (that McKinsey haven't already swallowed up). Would be an interesting pick up if true.
 
Would have thought basil would know the glass family pretty well, was big in Perth footy and channel 7 when glass was captain and doing reports. I’d be stoked to have him.

Understandable that Glass would be a bit broken up, but at least he hasn't lost his bottle.

Crumpets will add that there is a split between Ross/Rosich and Bell about whether they want him or not, the uncertainty makes Glass fed up, and he'll likely go back to West Coast - who would welcome him back, though they would rather see him develop his coaching at another club where he would have more opportunities.
