Did anyone see seven news in Melbourne tonight? (it may have reported in Perth too)
If you did, you would have noticed that Fraser Gherig is set to make his decision this week about which club he wants to join next year.
According to Craig Hutchinson it is down to two - Collingwood and Geelong.
Lets weigh up the Pros and Cons.
Collingwood - Pros
1. Re-join Mick Malthouse
2. Will become the centre half forward that the club needs
3. Financially stable club with strong support and History.
4. Take pressure of Rocca and Tarrant
Geelong - Pros
1. Re-join Brian Cook
2. Will become the centre half forward that the club needs
3. Has more chance of immediate success, given the club made the finals this year.
4. Will become the marquee player as the club has no real stars
Collingwood - Cons
1. Immediate success not expected in the short term
2. Will play second fiddle to Buckley as the clubs star
3. Will always be the central marking figure.
Geelong - Cons
1. Financially brittle, but getting better
2. Chequered History with the treatment of players, once again getting better.
3. One team town, high pressure to perform, but supporters not as fickle as Collingwood.
Both teams are young and both have plenty of money to splash around on him. One thing is certain is that he will become one of the highest payed players in the league.
If I was Gherig, I'd pick Geelong, simply because it is a team that looks like it will be more successful on field in the short term.
I might be being biased being a Geelong supporter, so I'd like to know what everyone else thinks.
