So some 'journo' suggests....

We aren't going to get much coverage this trade period. Goes with the territory we are in. Yet, for the sake of an article, some journo suggets Steven May could 'potentially' end up at our club. No evidence, no source, no suggestion from the club. Just a mention.

And boy did the nuffies go nuclear.

The worst part of it was blaming THE CLUB for a mere SUGGESTION made by a JOURNALIST independant of the club.

This perennial club-blaming is the reason our nuffies sit atop the podium of worst nuffies in the competition.

Shame on you all.

He was awful, but that was years ago. Hardly any players are still around from then. Rawlings has had six years to sort out the list. Clarko has had three and still hasn't come up with a viable gameplan. Todd is dreaming of a farm somewhere.
This is the problem tho.

If they were still around we'd be in a much better position. We might still be bottom four (or maybe not by now) but without five years of utter pus.

It's a problem, and definitely made the hole deeper, but those first two years of Rawlings were similarly diabolical. He brought in 21 players and only Curtis is a clear win.
We've been much better at the draft since, but we still keep signing recycled players that add little or nothing.

Its not that simple but fair enough. Not all 21 of those players are losses. Alot of rubbish tho. The first two years of this rebuild is a complete write off imo but if Joyce had done a half decent job we wouldn't have been so short of half decent players during that time either.

I dunno if you read that recent interview with Glenn Archer where he basically said managers won't even consider sending better players to clubs in the bottom four. Recycled players who aren't highly rated is all we have access to. I think that's more than just a North problem.

But Corr, Logue and Stephenson all showed something when they weren't injured, (often injured in bizarre, freak ways too.)

Pink, Stephens and all four of the players we brought in last year (yes even Daniel) all offer alot more than little or nothing.

I agree with this. Even Hawthorn couldn't, but the fringe types they targeted all had a purpose, even if they didn't all work. We seem to offer multiple years to anyone willing to join us.

I like Pink and have a glimmer of hope for Logue. You obviously rate the others higher than me.

On the four guys we brought in last year. I saw this then and now as a cover for Clarko's failures. If only he had better leaders, his game plan would work. Well, it didn't.

On the positive side, all four have good work ethics and help to set standards. Darling and Konstanty both worked hard and helped our forward line, though they should be pushed out by younger or more talented players soon.

However, owing to their physical limitations and outdated roles, Daniel and Parker were both liabilities on field. They were a significant part of our biggest weaknesses, defense and transition. Hopefully the new strategy guy will talk some sense into Clarko and he can find roles for them that make us better rather than worse.

I think all of our fringe players have a purpose. Some just aren't up to it. But I don't mind because we seem to cycle thru faster since Rawlings came than in the past. Trying to find something worthwhile that's fallen thru the cracks. There are plenty of good players like that across the country and the more you crank thru the better your odds of something good.

We chose to bottom out altho maybe after 2020 we didn't really have a choice. Either way once that decision was made then doing that recycling is part of the process. Its not like it'll be fixed immediately. Even if things hadn't gone to shit under Noble and we didn't lose talented players because they were homesick or treated women like garbage we'd only just be on the edge of competing for finals now. Might have made the eight in 2024 if we got lucky.

So we had the time to cycle thru players looking for a Scooter Thompson or Sam Gibson.

We definitely needed someone like Darling, he has great forward craft and knowledge and seems to be a very good onfield coach or at least an example our forwards can learn from. Parker was very good as well and Daniel is excellent when he has moving targets in front of him. Especially up the ground. Dunno how much of the stagnation is on the players or the coach but I think he'll still be good value for us over the life of his contract.

Konstanty was two goals off being our fifth highest goal scorer. Surely his goal kicking can be improved with a bit of mentoring and technique work. His pressure all over the ground was excellent and infectious as well. People don't value that stuff enough but its crucial in forcing turnovers even if they happen three or four possessions later in the chain. We've seen that happen to us often enough that we should recognise its value.

I think that we're on track, maybe a bit behind schedule but heading the right way. Especially considering where we were in July 2022. Our success and where we want to be is a bit like the end of the world. Its not here yet but you can see it from here.

Konstanty could hold his spot for a while. Slight improvement in his kicking for goal and he's in the top five for us last year. But if there's guys who push him out then good cos he seems like the type that'll work hard to get his spot back and that sort of pressure will only benefit us.

Yeah ... Daniel's use in transition will be improved by either moving him upfield or having more movement in front of him. The second thing is vital anyway whether he's there or not. Parker's value is in his toughness and his fight as much as anything else. He might be the first of them to make way if they learn that stuff from him/improve quickly enough.
