We are heaps fit guys
Don't know about that mate! We looked really average in 4th quarters in every one of our games this year including pre-season. We are a team that were going to be one of the most affected with capped interchange and we still are despite apparently running 50km a week during the preseason. We laughed at Port going to Dubai for a training camp, even had the club twitter account having a crack at them going to Dubai to train at high temperatures and we had temperature in the 40s in Adelaide.

Yet they ran us into the ground today and they were getting better as the game went on while we laboured on and once again getting overrun late in the game but apparently we are fitter than ever after running 50km a week! Please!

Burgess was recently on 5AA and said its not the amount of kms but the sprints. what have we said all preseason? How much we ran.

Does that include mental fitness? Our decision making today was as bad as I've ever seen it.

Fitness doesnt mean squat when you expend as much energy as Adelaide does, going nowhere fast and/or attempting to fix their continual fuch-ups under percieved pressure(or even under no pressure for that matter).

Id place money on the fact that as a group our boys would destroy Hawthorn and Geelong on beep test/ time trail times.

Our issue is mental, gameplan and skill level. Always has been!

Oh, and a good percentage of the group are soft bodied pansies doesnt help.

It's not so much fitness, it's player SPEED. You can't train harder in order to be quicker. At this level you're either quick or not, and you're drafted based on your attributes.

Our current midfield consists of Dangerfield, Sloane, Thompson, Douglas, Wright, Grigg, Porplyzia, Crouch, Kerridge, Lyons and VB.

Bar Dangerfield, none of them have decent leg speed.

Look at the defence. Rutten, Talia, Brown, Reilly, Shaw, Smith, Jaensch.

None with speed, and half of them can't hit the side of a barn door.

It's the players we have, not the fitness.

The biggest thing I took out of the game was we don't have the speed. Our players tend to lope around. We need Lynch back ASAP. He moves well and no one today in our forwards showed the speed or endurance to move from the wing into the forward line. Pods was bloody awful

Now there is a guy we now wish we payed what he was after. The dude is worth every ******* cent! In fact, whatever he is getting, he is underpaid!

I guess we couldn't afford him since we needed to pay the lawyers for Trigg's * up and for negotiating that we get butt raped without lube when it comes to Tippett-gate penalties!

As always the club decided to go the cheap option and went with Poulos instead.

Why have the best when we can go the mediocre route ? History will also show that Ross Lyon was available for the right price yet we once again we weren't prepared to chase and spend the money to land a big fish.

Sadly this club has lost it's killer instinct years ago, we no longer chase the best coaches and staff, our club ethos is to go the cheap option and hope for the best.

Looking at our fitness staff is like trying to catch the horse after it's bolted, or however that clumsy analogy goes.

What we need to do is talk to whoever is in charge of our skills. If we didn't fumble so many balls, drop so many marks, miss so many tackles, pinpoint the opposition with so many kicks, and handball to the ground so often, you wouldn't have noticed our fitness. I'll go as far as to say that with good skills, we would have won the Showdown, irrespective of our fitness levels.

Who is in charge of the skills? There are only two possibilities. Either the coaches in charge aren't good enough, or the players aren't good enough. If it's the latter, then either the recruiting department isn't good enough, or the admin that put them at a disadvantage in the draft isn't good enough.

At least one party is to blame for our poor skills. We need to identify who it is ASAP. And if we can't identify anyone, if they're ALL doing a good job, then it means our admin has underplayed the effect it has by preventing us from having early draft picks.

Then you guys can start to worry about fitness. In my opinion, fitness isn't even an issue. The fittest team in the world would run out of puff if they were forced to double-chase balls because they didn't take them cleanly, or run back to a player they already burst away from because their teammate turned the ball uncontested.

You raise good points but fatigue also leads to errors. Two years ago ports skills were stuffed, now they are fit, confident and skillful.

We have also had a lack of picks to pick quality players. There is no downplaying the loss of picks and players. We've all been living in fantasy land if we thought we could compete with teams that have retained players and loaded up with first round draft picks.

We will now not be a serious contender unless we bottom out for a number of years. That is the sad reality.

going to Dubai has 0% to do with Port being such a fit side. It's all about the program.

running all day is 70's stuff, we've just missed the boat completely. Having said that though we still look fit enough to compete well, its just IMO we are reading the play poorly because our guys aren't winning the ball like they were in 2012. Bartel, Westhoff or whoever else don't find a paddock because our man isn't fit enough to go with him, most of it is because we're running the other way expecting to win/keep possession and they're streaming off waiting for us to * it up, which has been happening frequently because mentally we have been so far out of the game its not funny.
