So who is the most underrated player in the AFL?

Great to see Schulz getting a few mentions (most mentioned?).

Probably a little bit bias but Ebert works his ass off all day and his physical pressure and strength is pretty unbelievable. Also a good contested mark with a great set shot.

I'd argue Cornes is a little underrated too - absolute veteran of the game whose averaged over 27 disposals for the last 5 or so seasons. And at this stage he's in career best form.

The Frost boys, Sam(GWS) and Jack(Magpies) are holding there own very well at senior level and look to have bright futures ahead of them. Jack is still on the rookie list(100% going to be upgraded in the coming draft), didnt leak any goals in a 70 point loss to Freo when he played on various opponents such as Pav and Mayne, has blanketed Lance Franklin, also did as good anyone could have in a miss-match against a monster who received elite passes inside 50 and who weighed 15+kgs more than them(Hawkins), he also beat Jack Riewoldt who ended up kicking 2 cheapies when the game was well and truly over and 1 of those was a rubbish free kick and the other one when Frost wasnt his direct man(Frost on the bench). From the top of my head, thats 4 Coleman medals and 4 runner up Coleman medalists in the first four weeks of the year with a direct goals against tally of 6 in 4 games, which is a great result.
Sam Frost hasnt had the same quality direct opposition, but has still played a fantastic brand of football and has impressed me as a full back but had abit of an iffy game against the dogs(apperently conced 3 goals to Jones, i missed the game) which is expected from a very young backman. Would love for Collingwood to trade in Sam and be able to play both Frost boys in the same defense for years to come.
I think these boys are pretty underrated.
If frost played on Pav in round 1 he got smashed, Pav had 5 shots on goal.

For us definitely Winderlich. One of the best small forwards in the game when rarely fit.

Elsewhere, I've taken the tough approach and tried a club that I really don't like myself and thus I'm bound to underrate naturally.

Josh Gibson. Every time he plays in front of me I remember. The guy is an absolute ****in gun. He completely controls the back half for Hawthorn in the way Fletch did for many years. Cool under pressure, reasonable one on one for his size, always gives a contest, and just patrols like a General.

The whole industry is in constant jizz-mode about Hodge. I reckon Gibson is every bit as important.

Thought id have a shot at a fielded 22:

B-Dempster Hooker Gibson
HB-Guthrie McDonald Brodie Smith
C-Rosa Jones Isaac Smith
HF-Douglas Tippett Schuey
F-Winderlich Schultz Mayne
R-Hale Ebert Ward
B-Nick Smith, Broadbent, Haynes
S-Rampe

edit - took Shaw out. Moved Rampe to bench, Gibson to BP and Hooker to FB

Winders is one of our smartest footballers and very good as a small forward. If only we could get him through 2-3 seasons uninjured.

Hear ya on Gibson as well. The best spoiler in the comp for the last few years and probably my first pick for FB if i was putting the AA together.

Thought id have a shot at a fielded 22:

B-Dempster Gibson Rampe
HB-Guthrie McDonald Brodie Smith
C-Rosa Jones Isaac Smith
HF-Douglas Tippett Schuey
F-Winderlich Schultz Mayne
R-Hale Ebert Ward
B-Nick Smith, Broadbent, Haynes
S-Sam Shaw (the blond hair guy from the Suns. pretty sure its Sam)

It's Matt Shaw and he's not particularly good.

Brown was on him for the majority, Frost was on Mayne for the majority. Pavs own doing for terrible conversion, he was hardly dominate for how long it was down there aswell, even if he scored 3 goals for the night.

I'll throw some (biased) love Heath Hocking's way. Tough as nails, solid leader, 100% effort each time and always gets the oppositions best midfielder and 99% of the time, does an good job on him.

Put Hooker in there at FB, Gibson BP, and it's Matt Shaw

5 scoring shots and 7 marks says that he did have a good game, poor kicking is the only reason he didn't play better.

5 scoring shots as the number 1 target in a 70 point win isnt anything to brag about, especially when you dont convert 4 of those scoring shots.

Jay Schulz is good but the glowing plaudits he has received from everyone are OTT. Very good player, yes, but best key forward in the game? Better than Jack Reiwoldt, Buddy, Cloke etc.
NO.
It appears that all that counts in whether you are over/underrated on BF is your last month of footy.
Schulz has kicked more than 35 goals in a season twice, and never over 50, and for the last 3 years averaged 2.2 goals per game.
Jack has kicked over 35 goals 4 times, and has averaged around 3 goals per game for 4 years or so.
Cloke has kicked 35 goals or more 6 times, and has averaged nearly 3 goals per game over 3 years.
Meanwhile Buddy has kicked more than Schulz has ever kicked in a season every year since 2008, and has averaged over 3.5 goals per game over that time.
Schulz is very good, and underrated, but not as good as many posters here are making out.

How many times has Schulz played a full season? Once.

2010: 16 games, 33 goals. Safe to say he would have kicked an extra 2 goals to reach 35 had he not missed 6 games
2011: 16 games, 31 goals. Safe to say he would have kicked an extra 4 goals to reach 35 had he not missed 6 games
2012: 15 games, 42 goals. Safe to say he would have kicked an extra 8 goals to reach 50 had he not missed 7 games.

Kane Cornes' career is severely underrated, has been going about it for 14 seasons and I'd say 9-10 of them at a very high standard.

Look at his stats avg. over 25 touches a game and you'd think he's going well, then you factor in that he was one of the best taggers going around and it's even more amazing.

Dion Prestia has crept up to be the #2 midfielder at GC, yet barely rates a mentioned.

Even so, he has never been near the heights of Cloke, Reiwoldt or Franklin in terms of goals scored per game.

Patfull so underrated he doesn't even make the 22. Can add in Tendai Mzungu too. Gets it done every week.
