Depends.

If you have a team that lacks consistency and needs someone that can perform at the same level most weeks Lampard

If you have a consistent team and need a player that can pull a wonder goal out of nowhere or 2 goals in 5 minutes to win you the game Gerrard

That's my take

Have to agree with Jod about Gerrard being better. He was immense in every facet against Man Utd, good camera kissing form and he has been sublime this and last season. Give me Carragher and Gerrard over Lampard and Terry anyday.

I'm leaning towards gerrard, its hard to tell how much his poor play has been a result of him being shit/disinterested/shit team.

Gerrard for mine without a doubt.

No-one else could run to celebrate with the cameraman in the corner and fall over on his way and as Dagger said, his sublime camera kissing skills cant be matched.

Frank Lampard last season 22 goals, 17 assists.

Mate, he's far, far better at the moment and only biased Liverpool fans even contend with arguing differently.

22 goals and 17 assists. They are ridiculously good numbers which can't be denied, or ignored.

A midfielder with his workrate, to do that is ****ing incredible.

People turn a blind eye to facts just because it suits their hatred/bias but I would hope you're above that.

The guy just keeps producing, season after season. Without fail. And the same haters/Gerrard lovers deny his superiority with forever weakening arguments.

And not to mention he's one of the most professional, well behaved model footballers in the league and really the poster boy of the Chelsea and England team because of his brilliant attitude and professionalism. He's one of those guys who evidently works so, so hard despite things not coming as easy to him as they do to other footballers. Really an example of someone to admire. Even if you hate Chelsea (for legitimate reasons, of which there are a few) there's no logic, or acceptable reason to dislike Lampard.

What use would lampard be for us? We have cesc that can do everything lampard can do and better. Gerrard is much more versatile and has better athleticism, something we lack. If we didn't have cesc I'd chose lampard.

It has nothing to with disliking chelsea or lampard. The only player I hate from chelsea is cashley.

What are we basing the votes on?

Is it in terms of thier careers so far or is it who is the better player now?

Over the course of their careers they are extremely hard to differentiate.

I think Stevie La has been better because of moments like Bossing Milan in Istanbul and his screamers against West Ham and Olympiakos when his team needed him to stand up - And stand up he did.

Only Dalglish has been a better player for the RS than Gerrard IMO.

I'm sure Lampard has stood up on big ocassions as well, but not to the same degree as Gerrard IMO. However if he keeps up his current level of performance then it will be hard to justify Gerrard as having a better career than him. Lampard's consistency is astonishing and is a real credit to the type of professional that he is.

In terms of right now, Lampard has been the better player at club level for some time and that isn't surprising when he's playing for the best team in the country and has better players around him. It's more difficult to compare their club performances because of the difference in standard between the 2 teams. If you swapped the two of them with each others clubs, do you think Lampard would still be better and be better to the same degree? I'm not so sure.

Being an England fan and speaking from the perspective of an England fan, I would take Gerrard over him. Gerrard actually seems to be arsed when he puts on the 3 lions shirt and his performances for England have been better than Lampards performances have been for quite some time now.

Rather Xavi myself :)

Voted Gerrard. Has always done more than Lampard with the exception of the last 18 months.
No he hasn't.

So you and fink yourself.

And the question is NOW.

So great going there.

This forum is really going to shit with some of the tools who have contaminated it.

Did goal.com tell you to add Xavi into the debate?

We know you support Barcelona and we know you try and turn every thread into Barcelona.

We don't care.

This. Somehow he managed to turn the man united vs liverpool game (thread) into a wankfest about villa.

No one gives a toss about your shitty goal articles or that biscuits made 2 tackles in 3 games. Just shut up and ride your bandwagon in silence.

They're pretty much indentical in terms of appearances and goals for England (and Lampard takes the penalties), so I give that to Gerrard. (Most of the past 18 months, Gerrard has played out of position for England).

Steven Gerrard, 30 years old: 539 (136) + 87 (19) for England.
Frank Lampard, 32 years old: 670 (197) + 83 (20) for England.

Lampard also had a truck load more assists than Gerrard (I cant find Gerrard's stats) but Lampard has 94 alone since joining Chelsea.

Sorry Apollo. I'll just take my hat and walk out of the thread.

If the question is "now" well yeah Lampard. But the question has to be asked, how would Lampard cope under similar circumstances? ie Hodgson + ordinary team + club's financial stress.

Sorry TIG. I'm deeply sorry. How about we talk about Torres? Or would that be unacceptable?

I'm fuming brah

And yet Lamps has more goals and assists for pretty much every year of their careers.
Could not give a rat's arse. I cannot think of a player that bailed his team out so many times like Gerrard did in the UCL groups of 08/09. Single-handedly got them into the tie with Chelsea. I know that's only one season (and not even league) but there are so many 1%ers that Gerrard does that just aren't quantified in goals/assist stats.

Why did you have to bring a Barcelona player into it?

Why couldn't you just add in your two cents and leave Xavi out of it?
