Assuming the Blues get docked their first two picks, as they should for blatantly cheating, who are we goona take at number 1
- Goddard: the Blues fan but supposedly the standout player?
- Wells: apparently sublimely skilled "but" from WA (no, I'm not "State-ist" but homesickness?? see D Headland) or
- Salopek: midfielder, probably not the best of the 3 but is a Saints fan and very much wants to come to the club.

Who to take? My head says Goddard, my heart says Salopek, none of my body parts says Wells. I've got this football recruiting theory that says - when all factors are roughly equal, go for the Victorian. It's interesting that as a game has become more and more national this ridiculous issue of wanting to be in your home state as you earn 300 thousand dollars has become a more not less common issue.

I reckon we'll take Goddard, but I would be equally as happy with Salopek. Don't forget, Judd was clearly rated 3rd by many in last year's draft (and he still may come out 3rd compared to full seasons from Ball and Hodge) so it may not be as cut and dried as we all think. Roll on Sunday!

My opinion:
In this order...

Goddard - Ability to play midfield, forward or back. Tall midfielder & or utility.
Wells - Lightning quick small, with skill to burn.
Salopek - Skills, Toughness & ball getting ability. Question mark on shoulders & lack of pace.

I don't necessarily agree with this type of recruiting philosophy (players to fit a need) but a player with genuine pace is one of the things we lack.

I say take the best player available but a bit of genuine pace would be a valuable acquisition.

Who are the quickest at St Kilda? Aussie was?

when the river runs dry, you will want to have...wells....

sorry, couldnt resist, but seriously this kid was runner up in the WAFL best and fairest at 17...

bring him over, if we are good enough, he'll want to stay and if he wants to go home we deal with that at the time...

wells for me

Pace wise, Hudghton - Ball (over 20metres or so he's definitely got pace) - Clarke - Montagna - Wulf - B Schwarze - Milne.

I really trust the club to make the right decision, where maybe I would have been a bit nervous in the past. We have got some great people down at the club who will be well educated about all the players, especially the suspected top 3. Whether we get Wells, Goddard or Salopek, I don't think we can go really go wrong either way. All are quality players who will provide some great service to their clubs. However, I suspect that Wells is the man. In the Herald Sun today it said that Wells was firming as the favorite to be picked at No.1 by us, if Carlton gets punished. Which they should.

Very hard decision.. I'm thinking Goddard with that extra height, Wells with all his skills, also comes with trade bait for Judd.

Overall: Goddard
