So why aren't you going to the footy ?

If you love the tigers
A couple of rule changes(toning now)
Cold weather(it’s winter)
Thursday night(early start)
Parking(car park was open)
Traffic(another excuse)

Should’nt keep you away if you’re within 30km of the G.

Nothing better than having a big crowd supporting the team. We’re in the 8 and aiming for top 4 hopefully. 100k members. Not acceptable lol. We’re a bit too soft these days. Need to get a bit of toughness. At least 10% of our player toughness would be nice :D

Yep, my passion for the Club keeps me going every week, although I did miss last week with the flu unfortunately.
Like many, hate the rule changes, especially stand, the 5m rule, ruck nomination (how easy would it be to just punish the team that has 2 players go up for the ruck contest!!!!) and particularly holding the ball which should be cut and dried. If you had time to handball or kick the ball and you don’t, it’s HTB even if it came out in the tackle, should be that simple.

Rule changes are annoying but they always fade off after a while. We’d have 90k if it was a final. It’s just a cop out all the excuses. People are just softer now and less interesting in stuff like footy. Play them some quality tunes from 50 years ago and they look at you all confused. They’d rather dance and prance :drunk:

am curious why fans are staying away in LARGE numbers , a load of reasons and are weighted differently depending on who you talk to ..
For mine scheduling is the deciding factor , battling MELB traffic , then finding a park in the boon docks for weekday NIGHT games , more often its duck that for me and stay home. the afl in general , rules changes et al ,,,doesn't persuade my interest in Tigers games but other matches it does

fire away,,,,

Have you watched this North GWS game???

Here is another question.

Why have North not folded??

Looks like North, West Coast and Essendon are tanking, so no crowds for those matches if they are clued up

Why is the crowd at the North GWS match so high?

If I am brutally honest I think the Bulldogs are tanking this year as well

While this is going on the powers at be feel within their rights to charge you more for everything including fuel, drinks, fines you name it, cost of living

AFL is going to have to have a international comp, not in USA, its getting too expensive in Australia. Prices for everything have to come down

There are too many reasons not to go.

What's better at the footy:
The atmosphere (sometimes)
The event spectacle, e.g. Dreamtime, ANZAC eve (sometimes)
The full ground view of the positional play

What's better at home:
Everything else.

Why would I go most weeks?

I work most Saturdays and Sundays, so most games are off limits, but have made a conscious decision to avoid AFL in general and won't be going unless I jag a GF ticket if we're in it.
Run by a corrupt and Woke organisation that is more interested in social engineering and virtue signalling than actually putting on a decent and credible show.
Footy, for me - as a player for a long time and spectator/fan - was a release on weekends, a chance to get away from everything else and the plethora of agendas being constantly forced upon us.
I don't need to go to the footy, pay $50 for the 'privilege' and $10 a beer to have more of those same agendas forced down my throat.
When I moved back to Melbourne for a few years about a decade ago, I never missed a Tigers game and would most weeks watch at least two, sometimes three games a weekend live.
Added to that, the AFL, its rule changes and constant reinterpretations of rules, have killed the spectacle off.
The game was great in the 60s (not that I was alive), 70s, 80s and 90s as it evolved naturally; its evolution since has been artificial and basically mandated from above and it's never looked worse.
FFS, put a moratorium on rule changes - we don't need two or three or four new ones a year, on top of the previous year's three. Leave the game alone. I don't see cricket inventing new ways to dismiss a batsman every summer; or basketball rushing to a four or five-point line; or netball, after introducing a two-point goal, after years of consideration, back up the next and create a three-point goal. Give the rules time and game time to breathe.
I know it's a multi-billion corporation and game, but it seriously needs to get back to grassroots and its spiritual base. And it's time for the AFL to let clubs run on their merits. A salary cap is great, but stop handing out concessions for poor performance and inept management at the expense of those who do operate effectively and efficiently. I felt that even while my own side was floundering, yet were eventually able to thrive.
It's the most contrived sporting competition in the world, with the AFL playing the role of dictator. It manufactures every outcome to its own satisfaction but has the morals of a sewer rat.
Well summed up.

Add all the hoops you have to jump through to get to the ground like ticketing, traffic, parking. Then when you get to the ground overpriced food and drinks, unbearable noise from advertising, theatre going supporters behind you more interested in the multi-bet they have placed. The woke organisation that has basically censored free speech. The list goes on.

This is coming from a 43 year RFC member who would attend just about every game in Melbourne. A die hard. I ditched my AFL Gold membership this year. Will always be a RFC member but probably only attend half a dozen games per season from now on. When the AFL start losing the likes of myself they need to get very worried.

The AFL has taken its supporter base for granted and treated us like fools. Now they're getting their answer.

I hardly buy food at the footy. The cost of food would never keep me away. If you’re hungry, eat before you go. Very simple. If you don’t want to catch the train then drive. Saying all this, the G need to open the car park for all games and reduce food and drink prices by 30%

I go to most games.
only reasons I can come up with that people aren’t going are weather, cost, ticketing issues and covid.
Doubt umpiring and rules or state of the game has anything to do with it. Plenty of eyeballs watching tv.
Found Gil's burner account.

Honestly, people are here saying they refuse to go due to the rule changes (myself included) and people like you still have the audacity to say it's not true - even though we're telling you that's why.

This is everything that's wrong with the AFL industry - fans are just ignored for people's own agendas.

lol, so people should just shut up and put up with being shafted further up the arse and just obey and follow like sheep? You must get off on some real crazy stuff.

I've noticed positive Richmond articles on the AFL site are rare as hens teeth.
AFL did push through Shocking's rules designed to stop our defense.

The stand rule was brought in after Shocking studied Cotchin.

I go but I can understand those who don't.

I love to socialise ,I miss my extended Tiger fam.

Anyone would think the rule changes are that drastic.lol
You still watch it at home though wtf. Get to the game and support the team we all love coz the rest we can’t control.

Things change naturally. By staying home hurts no one but you’re own club. Protestors are the sensitive ones who cop out. Supporting the club isn’t being a sheep
