I'm getting a feeling people don't like this finals system.

Anyone wanna explain why?
Suggest a new system?

Cry about how their team would've won under this system except for me banning them from finals? (@Reardo and Broken that's directed at you. )
Any system where a team is able to lose two games in a row and still make the Grand Final is nothing short of a mockery.

This is a finals system. Not a round-robin.

The nature of the game means that the chips can fall one way or another, I like that one poor game won't leave a team out of the running. It's effectively a best of three between the top two teams, like a playoff series.

That's fine with me.

The team that was better then everyone else after eighteen rounds being given the maximum chance to make the grand final is a bad thing?

Interesting negative but ok.
Understandable that top place should get a double chance... but a triple chance?
That last round should have been the last finals round before the GF. Having a single final going onto the single GF. It's a bit convoluted.

We do realise any team in the top four also gets a double chance, along with the added advantages of finishing first, yes?

It's progressive. First and second get a stronger advantage than third and fourth, and further fifth and sixth. The only real issue is the length of the series.

I'm still stunned you went to those depths, for naming a retiree you ban us from the finals. Talk about petty.

It's obvious the Roys would have won the flag if they made the finals. We beat the Hawks in Round 15, we beat the Furies in Round 2 and I think we beat the Gumbies last season. So with that foolproof reasoning I think it's only fair to hand the Roys the Season 16 premiership and call the rest off.

Why should 60% of the league make the finals? That in itself would mean teams with a poor record would/could still make the finals.

Finals should be the best of the best. Top 5 at most. Minor premiers get week 1 off in finals. 4v5 elimination final. loser is out. Week 2 of finals down to 4 teams. 4 weeks of finals instead of the current 25 weeks!

Because it's designed to be enjoyable?

This ain't a battle royale where the 'best of the best' charge at each other with swords, it's a fantasy competition. I'd rather the top five and the Swamprats play finals this season than the top five and thus not the Swamprats.

That's just about as perfect as it could get, I think.

Maybe every team should have a chance to make the Grand Final then.

Oh. Wait...

Top six stays.

Why?

Well other then because I say so its because in a game relying heavily on activity then we will always look to keep the maximum participants involved as long as possible whilst trying to maintain realism.

Six leans more to participation then realism slightly but guess what? Its fantasy so we'll always lean towards participation over realism.

Have you given any thought to introducing a top ten? Just curious.

Exactly what ClarkeM said.

5 team finals series is much simpler and works. But it's about activity right? Well pull a DreamTeam/Supercoach and have a finals series in the same format for the bottom 5 to keep the guys interested.

The current finals format is no good.
