Righto I see we have a cricket thread and the occasional soccer thread popping up. I was just wondering where everybody's allegiances lie with regard to soccer.

For the record my teams are West Ham (England), Germany (International), Stuttgart Kickers (German League). Haven't really got into the Aussie league, tried to watch it on the telly in the past but it bored me to tears, so I don't have a team there.

I'll give you a hint....

"One Tony Adams...
There's only one Tony Adams...
One Tony AAAAAADDDDAAAMMMMSSSSS...
There's only one Tony Aaaaadddddaaaammms"

That said, soccer is not a patch on Aussie Rules or RU for that matter as a spectator sport...

Two questions for someone who would have more first hand access and knowledge of the roundball game.
1. Is Rio worth 18 mill or did the Hammers take Leeds to the cleaners?
2. How good is that Di Canio?!!!!!!! Out of 22 goals we've scored this season I reckon he's either kicked or set up about 15-16 of them, all with a touch of class! Pure magic that bloke!

Look its funny money for starters isn't it? Based on a mass audience of morons on a scale that can bankrole these wages... that said...

1. If Flo is worth 12m pounds to Rangers; and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank is worth 15m to Chelsea, then, at age 20 or 22, with a great football brain and loads of International potential then, yeah Rio is probably worth it. Also, if Figo (who IMHO is easily better than Rivaldo, Zidane & Beckham) is worth 42m pounds to Real Madrid, then Rio is probably accurately priced as having the potential to be about 40% as good as him...

Because that is what Leeds are paying for... potential. Frankly, a Leeds team that boasts Harry, Viduka, Woodgate, Boyer, Smith, Martyn & Rio - is, well a bloody good team - as Lazio found out in Italy the other night. That said, I think that a few Yorkshiremen might object to the colour of Rio's skin... they don't wear a white strip for nothing up there.....(!)

2. Paulo Di Canio, in terms of sheer talent, is right up there as one of the best strikers from Italy in the world at the moment. He would be seriously threatening a spot in the national team, regardless of Vieri & Totti, if he could keep his mouth shut. Unfortunately, being a bit of a muppet, he cannot. Two great recent quotes on Di Canio:

First: On leaving AC Milan to his then coach: "I'm not going to waste my time here looking at your stupid ugly penis face any more"

Second: The current Italian coach (name escapes me) recently noted: "There would have to be a bubollic plague for him to get into the national team"...

That said, I like Paulo, he's good for the sport - and frankly is more Italian in his attitude and outlook than most of the national side.

Why do people have to bring the argument of "Aussie Rules is a better spectator sport than soccer". What's this got to do with the question that Darky put up.

Pretty good win overnight at Anfield though Grendel... think you got great deals on both Heskey and Barmby...

Liverpool are definitely on the way back my man... (faster than the Hawks at that).

Same olds - sorry, just had to put the round ball game into perspective...

There seems to be a surprising amount of Essendon fans who are also gooner scum.

Once filth always filth I suppose!

Come on you Spurs!

In England I support West Bromwich Albion who are in the first division and follow Man Utd in the Premier League.

In Australia I support Perth Glory.

I like Lazio in Italy, AJAX in Holland and Real Madrid in Spain.

I've usually only ever watched Premier League with a kind of detache neutrality. I've also been keen on the successes of the Australians in that league and tend to have an interest in teams they play in. (With the exception of ManU - Could never stoop that low!)

Now that Leeds have 3 Australian going around I guess I follow them closer than the others! Not enough to call myself a real supporter though!

I'm a "glad all over" Crystal Palace fan and we're rolling on a ten match unbeaten run at the monment. Never a dull club. We've had 2 promotions, 3 relegations, a cup final, receivership, a 3 time manager Steve Coppell, another who couldn't speak english - Atillio Lombardo - and that was all in the nineties ! Go eagles ( not westcoast either) and Bulldogs !
