Frank Lebouf was sent off in the 78th for a second caution, Australia in the semi's, most likely now to not play Brazil, and play either cameroon or Japan

Was there ever any doubt?

Always knew that the poise and class of champions like Muscat would win out against "players" like Zidane, Djorkaef and Anelka.

Seriously though, this kind of result against a powerhouse like France is an unbelievable effort -- Sure, France were missing a few of their guns, but remember we're without our best players in Kewell and Viduka too.

Anyway, bloody fantastic win! I'm rapt! :D

BTW... let's just hope that they don't undo all this hard work by losing 6-nil in the final, again. ;)

I nearly dropped all the dishes at home!!

Truly, I was jumping up and down so much I nearly broke my dinnerset!!

What a performance......Shwartzer's save was just incredible...he's gotta be our No. 1 keeper. (with a name like Schwartz he's gotta be good.!)

Hope to see the guys at the G before we make our trek to the world cup!!

Great result for the Socceroos! It was a great, polished performance and a great goal.
Hopefully we can maintain the momentum and have a good crack for the remaining Confederations Cup matches and move on to qualifying for the World Cup.
Hopefully the world will start to wake up and realise where not that bad a soccer team after all! I sometimes have a look at www.bigsoccer.com and everyone round the world does not rate the Aussies at all, hopefully a few more results like this, a place in the World Cup (crossing fingers), and a good preformance there, and the world will stop downgrading us!

France fielded a virtual second XI, and was missing key players such as Zinedine Zidane, Thierry Henry and Fabien Barthez, all of whom had stayed in Europe

Yea but Mags they still had Wiltord and Anelka up front. And australias goal, couldnt blame the goalie.

yep Mags..

we were also missing Viduka, kewell, bosnich, tiatta.. etc...
surely a #1 France (albeit a 2nd 11) would still easily outclass a #64 Australia (2nd 11)...

How many goals did Zidane get in the world cup final? Or am I thinking of Zinedine? I know it's fantastic that Australia won, but it's hardly a good judgement when both countries have their star players out.
